Must be a white one, some women seem to find mine a little intimidating. (course it could be the way I drive.)  B)

Eh, just cracking a joke to counter the cartoon.

It would be interesting though to find out what pre-conceived notions women initially may have about the drivers of various makes and models ..surely there must be a comprehensive study out there on the subject..? On a small scale and only in the U.S. a poll taken of a couple thousand women ranked men who drove pick-up trucks as "most attractive" and by a rather large margin, but the categories were also broader ( broad...he,he.) - no specific makes or models ; just bundled by pick up trucks, sports cars, sedans, luxury cars, vans, hybrids, etc.

There was also an opinion poll a while back ( last year I believe ) which bashed BMW drivers who were perceived to be the biggest jerks, but that survey included the opinions of both men and women. I don't recall the other cars which were included in the poll, just that BMW came on top, and blue BMWs were rated the highest on the jerk driver scale. Bizarre, no clue how that particular conclusion can be drawn by anyone, lol.

This is a pie chart I found from some poll in the UK ..so there seems to be a consensus on BMW , lol.

Slow day expected today ( our company is moving offices from one building to another ) so I should have time for some internet search on cars and their drivers profile surveys. Will also try to find one specific to Los Angeles I've seen recently which was very amusing ; exaggerated stereotypes of course but close enough to the truth to make those living or familiar with the SoCal nod with a knowing smile.. I vaguely remember these :

Lamborghini = Iranian, ( aka Persian ) , designer jeans with heavily embroidered pockets, shirt unbuttoned down to belly button, driving loafers

Ferrari = Russian ( nouveau riche generation ) Adidas training suit, gold chains, Nike Jordans.

Porsche = Actors , AKA - waiters , bartenders , all black clothing , short sleeve skin tight tshirs , skinny jeans, flip flops.

BMW = attorneys, only people in L.A. still wearing neckties.

Bentley Continental, Rolls Royce = every octogenarian movie producer or director, custom made clothing.

Hybrids = delusional tree-huggers Whole Foods and Trader Joe's employees, hemp clothing .

Mercedes = retail sales people, employers' clothing lines.

Low rider Chevys = everyone else in L.A. wife-beater t shirts, low slung mid calf shorts.

I used to live in N. Cal, Marin county which had the highest proportion of Porsches in the U.S. in the 70's due to Allan Johnson.  Nearly 90% of all Porsches in the U.S. if you can believe it.  Porsche ranked really high in the Jerk category then, at least in the Bay area.  Glad to see there down to 3% generally.

having grown up in the bay area, i can attest to the negative attitude about porsches, and more specifically, their owners.   i have always hated porsches.  for that reason, i almost did not buy my first 968.  i can't believe i am actually going to buy a 911.  it goes against everything i have thought for decades.  i will be making a lot of apologies and eating a lot of crow for a very long time.

I fell in love with Porsche's when I saw my first one in (or realized what it was) in 1967. It was to me the symbol of "making it" to own one. So in 2000, with a wad in my pocket from day trading I finally purchased the marque of my dreams. I was 38, single (and dating up a storm), and loving my new Porsche. I have to admit, I thought it would help with the ladies.

What I didn't count on was the D-bag factor...I found I had to overcome perceptions about "the type of guys that drove a Porsche"...it actually hurt my chances in the dating pool. I was really surprised at that reaction, though my friends told me I didn't know how to play with my new toy (I took a lot of grief). I did manage to make some new friends Wink , but was in spite of the Porsche, not because of it.

"... my friends all drive Porsches"

For me its always been up and down... I saw my first 911 in Bangkok parked next to a Volvo P-1800. My father was with me and on return to the U.S. he bought the Volvo.

With a 356 Janice didn't have to worry about bending the hood or fenders. Now I would be afraid to sit on a car due to the thin metal.

First, the Mitsubishi number is baloney. The junior racers around here love their Mitsu's and Subaru's, and they tend to drive like testosterone fueled knuckleheads. When I am in the 968 and I hear that classic Subaru boy-racer exhaust (I refer to it as the three cylinder-three stroke sound) pull up next to me, I can predict what's going to happen when the light changes, and I am rarely wrong.

As for the others, we have a higher APF (anal proclivity factor) with Audi's than BMW's, but that may be due to the Audi's ability to handle snow.

What I find regarding any Porsche and woman is that it is impossible to take the car into a party, restaurant, bar with you . :glare:  So no one knows you drive our great cars, until you go outside. There used to be (1970-1990) a great line of shirts and jackets. At least when wearing one of those it could start up a conversation.

No need for anyone to go outside to see what you drive; a Porsche crest key fob, left cosnpicuously on the bar or any other place you sit down ( business meetings, etc ) right next to you would do the trick, although that can easily categorize you as a D-bag , more so than being admired by the opposite sex.

that would be very close to wearing a T-Shirt that proclaims you manhood is larger than average and you can last longer than 30 seconds, I could never lie like that Rolleyes

that's the song where the line comes from... "my friends all drive Porsches... I must make amends... Oh Lord won't you buy me a M.B."  Its aptly called "Mercedes Benz".  She lived in Kentfield.  A suburb in Marin County.

But weren't those lyrics implying that an MBZ is at least par with, if not better than a Porsche ?

We've had MBZs ( many different models ) for over 30 years, and still have one ... and as much as we like them, they don't even come close to Porsches , IMHO . But maybe in her day, they were superior to Porsches .
