idle control valve
#1

Does anyone know if this part is the same as another?

Only it seems they are approx $300!!

I took mine off to inspect, as my car had a surging idle problem.

The 2 pipes were quite black inside and then I decided to open up the barrel, to find an electric motor inside, which I dropped!!

So I now need a new part!

That's a pretty decent price for it. Also clean up your MAF with some MAF cleaner, and the contacts on the connector. And also check for any vacuum leaks, some of those rubber elbows are probably shot by now.

They can be cleaned if they do not move freely and can work well after that.

Also it is possible to substitute a part from an Audi, BMW or Saab or the like. The main difference seems to be the nipple configuration. I suggest trying one for a Saab 900, Audi 4000, etc. One of my cars even had an IAC from an E30 BMW on it, worked fine despite having the different inlet/outlet arrangement.

Note: I am not a pro and don't blame me if your car burns up, but I suggest substituting a cheaper part.

I thought I'd read other versions could be used, I guess it's not always worth it,

An OE dealer wanted $500!!

A private Bosch specialist just over $300 approx. and unyet there are a few on UK Ebay at $100 which look the same off BMW etc....

Guess I'll have to make an executive descision !

The part is not that hard to change. I recommend getting an alternative part from the breakers, cleaning it good, and swapping it in. You can test them with a 9v battery in short bursts. It's a robust part but subject to a lot of grunge. A proper cleaning will probably put you on the road for years.

The 928 method is to squirt a bunch of cleaning fluid into these things without removing them. They are harder to get to on the 928. This also works but it is more temporary. In the case of the 968 I think you could clean it this way with acceptable results, with a good long soak. Carb cleaner followed by seafoam or the like. the hose is easy to get to.

Cheers,

Sure,

It came our fairly reasonable and for some reason I thought it had some gubbings worth cleaning out inside the casing !

but I now know inside is a motor, and when I opened the casing the motor came out and on the floor !!! in a few pieces!

so hence I figure I need a new unit!

I didn't realise the dollar was almost half the pound again, so my previous quotes were not that accurate|!

I'd say I can get a new bosch part for $80, and a breakers at $45 but as the car had an erratic idle, there is no point in going for the 2nd hand one!
