Red light won't go out
#1

My main warning light is on at all times now by itself. Removed MAF and cleaned platinum wire with CRC cleaner(is there supposed to be a foam filter prior to it?) . No better. It was an intermittent problem for a while in as much that if it was off when you started driving, it would stay that way. Stop, then it could be on when engine was re- started. Any thoughts, anyone, anyone. Fry?

If I recall no blink test on the ROW cars? There is probably a code stored in there if that warning light is one, might need to have that computer codes checked.

that light is there to warn you of any serious codes - many things will set it off - are there no other lights on? (i.e. airbag, parking brake, etc)

if not, then you need to plug it into the hammer or a durametric and read the code

Or optionally build the circuit board and use the public domain software if you are handy with electronics.

I've now sussed out that when I park with the handbrake off ( on a flat of course), when I start up again later that the light stays off and remains off. The handbrake light goes off and on when it should in normal use. But as soon as I stop and use the handbrake, turn off the ignition, the main warning light stays on after the car is re-started but h/b light goes off when brake is released. It does this consistently.

sticky contact at the switch - clean it with contact cleaner, and then adjust as necessary

It's fixed! The garage topped up my engine oil slightly and that done the trick! Had the earth tags all cleaned at the same time. Another box ticked. Didn't even think about the oil level as I put some oil in a couple of weeks back. There is an oil patch on my drive so I will need to investigate that now. Sigh. On a brighter note I can thrash it again!

If your oil level is down and you don't park the car on a level surface the red master warning light will remain lit after you start the car. You should also see the low oil warning as it will remain on as well.

No low oil light, maybe it's dead.

Must be dead. My car leaks oil so I'm quite familiar with both of those lights. And around here there never seems to be a flat parking spot. There should definitely be a low oil level. Usually needs a quart I believe at that point.
