Runs fine but won't idle
#1

Life was going grand after the rebuild. No issues except for the odd loose clamp and maybe an extra tweak of a nut here or there until today. Started fine and I took off for work. It's all 70 KPH highway for 10 minutes so no idling involved. Got to my first stop sign and the car just died. I started it and continued one block to work and it dies in the parking lot while putting the car into reverse. Starts up every time but just no idle - no codes.

Did a search but not too much gleaned from that. I'm going to check the ICV at lunch, connectors and the like for obvious things.

Suggestions? Besides drive like a bat out of hell all the time which I know is one solution

Did you clean the icv with brakecleaner ?

If so could be the problem . .

I found out taking one appart wich i just cleaned but could not get it to work , the stuf can easely drain into the electric part where there are some tiny contacts springloaded . There is no seal between the valve and electric part .. The cleaner wil leave a residue causing bad contacts .

I found that out few weeks ago . Bought a new one .

I think beter to use contact spray or something like that it wil clean it just as good .

I cleane the contacts after i took it appart and ig was working again . But i kind of destroyed it by opening so in the bin .

Glad it was something simple. Do you think it was just a loose clamp? or one that needs to be repositioned?

I had positioned and tightened all the clamps after the rebuild and return from Paso. I noticed that I had to push the pipe back in about 2mm before re-tightening the clamp. I think the combination of pipe flex from engine movement and the angle it leaves the hose lead to it working loose. You can see that the pipe does not leave the hose straight by the gap at the front of the hose. It starts to curve immediately and I think that bit of off-angle was the culprit. If it happens again maybe I can look at finding same hose but with a large radius curve to match the pipe a bit better.

more likely you just didn't have the clamp all the way on the other side of the ridge.

engine movement will not affect anything. that entire assembly moves together.

the charge pipe should butt up against the supercharger outlet. there should be almost no gap or offset. if you have either, then you need to loosen the clamp at the throttle body and reposition the charge pipe so that everything butts up nicely, with the throttle body end of the charge pipe slightly inside the throttle body

there is no need to change hoses

Glad that's all it was. After what you have been through this past year, you deserve a break and some driving time!

Those were my thoughts Jake. I'm still reeling from having my roof out for the last 3 WEEKS and still no sign of rain! I've never had it out for more than a day before. Everybody chant - "Global, Global, Global ......." Off to let some more Freon 12 into the atmosphere!
