Home Made Hammer
#1

Have you guys/gals seen the tread on .net about this?

It started on Rennlist in the 994 tread and splashed over to the 993 tread, its alittle hard to follow but I and going to try and make one (with help of course).

if you choose go and look for "Diag interface & Software" on Rennlist 994 forum. I think they said it "should" work for our cars.

Talk amongst yourselves.

Found it (finally):

Any chance you could summarize it for me? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Not really in the mood to read 21 pages...looks like some sort of interface to diagnose throw codes?

I myself am having a hard time with it, several people on that site have asked for the same with no response. I will re-read 8 more times <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> and try to come up with something.

Well, I read a lot last night. It's a sensor for the port on Porsche's.

So, say the warning light comes, you plug this in, and diagnose the code.

Basically you take the schematics and build your own unit, which is an interface form the car's port to your laptop running the provided software.

The Bosch Hammer (KTS-300) is about as rare as a 968 Turbo S, so people are being forced to build their own. Other alternatives cost upwards of $2000+

Right, from what I read on the other sites, this will have "most" of the functionality of the hammer (ie.. read/clear code-incl the air bag light, watch data streams...) I downloaded the app and started it but with out the DME input it did nothing. I'm not an electrical guy (was an auto tech), but I work for a company that deals with PC boards and such so I will (quietly <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) acquire parts.

PS. The cost and availability of the hammer is my motivation as well.

For a working home made hammer, You must read the topic in the directory of post that any 968 owner should read!. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I want it! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I've read it! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/unsure.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I don't understand it. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I'm willing to pay $60 - and even more - for a working home made hammer. If someone will make more clear what I have to buy, and do, I'm ready - or if someone will buy, do, and sell, I'm ready.

I definitely don't have the talent or experience to design this, but sure would love to have one and would definitely pay a fair price for same. I really hope this materializes. So sad that our Porsche dealerships will lose our "reset" business. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

When one of you buy this very interesting tool and actually use it, I'm sure that there will be many interested 968ers since this could be a great tool to add to one's box. Offhand, it sounds a bit tedious to use. There's a similar product (I hear) being made for 928s but it's closer to $500...and more functional I think.

Anchorman, it takes quiet long I suppose? When I ordered mine at Andy' shop it arreves within 10 days. Maybe the transfer from the United Kingdom to the USA gives problems at the delarations?

I'm jealous - I still haven't received mine. I sent a note to Andy and he said there's been some mail problems and he's going to send me another one. I was at Radio Shack today and they have no 3-ohm resistors (in case I need to temporarily bypass the airbags and reset the light with my new "mini-hammer" - once I have it.
