Anyone know of a Porsche tool #9288 ("Hammer")available for loan, rent, or purchase? I've been looking around on the web with no success, and would really like to check for ECU fault codes/status. Unfortunate that the the 968 series missed the OBD standard (mandated in 1996) by a year, the OBD interface hardware/software abounds.

I'm extremely happy it's not OBDII, you can try purchasing the Durametric software and cable

Yep, a blink test will be the easiest indicator of any stored faults. The Durametric for the 968 is really only useful for a few things on the 968 as the computer interface just isn't as sophisticated as present day vehicle electronics. Durametric is great for resetting the air bag lights and READING values, but isn't too useful for FIXING stuff. For example, I had it plugged into a tiptronic car to diagnose the dash light and it told me what the problem was (fault code) but wouldn't allow me to write any changes. Durametric for all the newer cars is wonderful and is very useful for coding dash indicators and making adjustments.

Yeah, my definition of fixing stuff was referring to the newer era cars where you can actually use it to modify things in the factory programming. For example, I can turn the door open warning gong off on my Cayenne. Lots of data in the 968 ECU for sure. As we've both discovered, you can't use Durametric to make any changes per se. You have to burn a new ECU. Now that we've got that out of the way............ <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Hopefully, the OP can cure what ails him.

Do they just sell the PC software? I think i could fab the adapter and cable fairly easily..........

Flash, thanks for the offer, I may take you up on that. At this point I'm looking at researching fault history, no warnings to clear, except the lame brake pad warning light, but I'll be jumping the sensor circuit for that at next opportunity.
