Have you guys/gals seen the tread on .net about this?
It started on Rennlist in the 994 tread and splashed over to the 993 tread, its alittle hard to follow but I and going to try and make one (with help of course).
if you choose go and look for "Diag interface & Software" on Rennlist 994 forum. I think they said it "should" work for our cars.
Talk amongst yourselves.

I myself am having a hard time with it, several people on that site have asked for the same with no response. I will re-read 8 more times and try to come up with something.

Right, from what I read on the other sites, this will have "most" of the functionality of the hammer (ie.. read/clear code-incl the air bag light, watch data streams...) I downloaded the app and started it but with out the DME input it did nothing. I'm not an electrical guy (was an auto tech), but I work for a company that deals with PC boards and such so I will (quietly ) acquire parts.
PS. The cost and availability of the hammer is my motivation as well.

I ended up getting side tracked and had to put this on the shelf, My friend got Andy's interface for his 964 so now I have a template (just have to get back to it) I hate taking my to the shop when I know I can do it myself.

Step 2: Buy the interface at Andy's shop
Step 3: Place the jumper on the outside pins.
Step 4: Cut the led of the interface marked as D4.
Step 5: Buy a female female cable 9 oins for the comport.
Step 6: Run windows 2000
Step 7: Connect the leds to the right holes in the 19 pins connector.
Step 8: Turn on the ignition
Step 9: Select the airbag option. Read the codes and clear the codes.
Step 10: Look at the dashboard and you wil have a big smile. Lights are out.

When one of you buy this very interesting tool and actually use it, I'm sure that there will be many interested 968ers since this could be a great tool to add to one's box. Offhand, it sounds a bit tedious to use. There's a similar product (I hear) being made for 928s but it's closer to $500...and more functional I think.

Anchorman, it takes quiet long I suppose? When I ordered mine at Andy' shop it arreves within 10 days. Maybe the transfer from the United Kingdom to the USA gives problems at the delarations?
