Hershey Prep Picnic
#1

WHAT IT IS:

OK, everyone in the NoVa, MD, DC area...here's an idea - On Sunday, April 20th, I'm offering up my place to get together to have a pre-Hershey prep party. Come to clean, come to fix, come to just hang out in the (hopefully) springtime weather. We all know it usually tries to rain on Hershey weekend, so I'm hoping the week before will be "safe".

WHAT I HAVE:

I have room for 3 cars simultaneously in my garage, 4 if you count my other office/warehouse, plenty of outdoor parking, 2 Porter Cable 7424 dual orbital, 1 Makita 9227 rotary, lots of rags/towels/supplies. Also at your disposal will be my 33 gal air compressor, impact wrench, etc., a couple of shop vacs, a torque wrench in case anyone needs to put wheels back on, and a pretty decent set of BASIC tools. There's two floor jacks, one low racing style for the 968, a bigger 4 ton that will fit under most 944, 4 jack stands, and a set of wood blocks for under the wheels as described on 968forums.

I have Mahle oil filters (6 bucks each reimbursement - I buy in bulk) and crush gaskets if anyone wants to change oil, but you'll need to bring your own oil - see below.

WHAT TO BRING:

I do not have any Porsche specialty tools, so if you want to do belts or other mechanical type stuff, you'll need to bring whatever tools you may want to use or share along with you.

Also bring any extra buckets and/or your favorite cleaning supplies. I will be inviting a local fellow detailer to see if she wants to peddle some of her excellent products. I'm sure she can provide some samples for folks to try. I've got a call into a PDR guy, but haven't got a confirmation yet.

Also bring any food and drink goodies you'd like to share. I'll supply an assortment of beverages, (there's also a grocery store and a state store VERY close by), coolers, condiments and get my wife to make some of her super duper-rific burgers. I'll also supply the grill and the match!

Please respond via PM, e-mail, or post here so I can guage interest and get a potential head count. Also indicate if you will be washing, cleaning, or other work you may want to do. In case of rain, we'll most likely just cancel, but since I'm here most of the waking hours anyway, I'll be around in case anyone happens to be in the area!

No takers???

Have the PDR guy checking his schedule to confirm...it would be good to give him a potential head count if anyone will want to utilitze his services that day. I'll update this post as soon as I know and also get group pricing for us at that time. He usually charges "by the panel" but of course, if that "panel" is a complete disaster, it'll be more!

Sorry, no idea if I am making it to Hershey and no idea if I'll have a car available to drive. But, I may have to force myself to be there if the PDR guy is showing up. If you cross post on dorkiphus.net you may get some more locals

OK guys and gals, "last call". If you want to join us and plan to work on your car(s), please PM here by Friday COB so I can get a head count and plan accordingly. I have a few folks planning on wash/wax, a few interested in dent repairs and some others planning on just hangin' out. Don't have a confirmed time frame for my dent guy, but for those of you interested, his pricing starts at 125.00 per panel but may be adjusted accordingly if there are multiple (more than it's fair share) of dents and dings. I plan to have him firmed up also by COB Friday.

If you PM to RSVP, please include the following:

1.) Work or activities you'd like to accomplish

2.) Food, drink, etc. you want to bring. I will have burgers and dogs and beverages, so other items are up to all of you.

3.) Approx time you plan to show up. Stay as long as you want, but for garage space sake, it'd be nice to know how much shuffling we may need to do to accomodate indoor needs.

Thanks, and look forward to seeing existing friends and making some new ones this Sunday!

Just got here...weather sucks...not letting it get me down though. I do have one person coming to pick up a car I worked on this week and I have plenty of burgers, so even though we may not get too much actual car stuff done, please feel free to come by anyway.
