3rd Annual Hershey Prep Picnic
#1

OK, its that time again. Time to get ready for Hershey. I'm sure everyone is following the Hershey thread and if you're not planning on going, you're going to miss out on a great time! In addition to all the usual stuff you're used to, we're very excited about this year's 968 specific activities and looking forward to a longer and more social event. So, that being the case, for everyone needing that extra little nudge to get motivated to perform those last minute maintenance tasks, a bit of extra cleaning here and there, or if your car hibernates during the snowy months and needs time to wake up and clear the cobwebs, it's time to come out and play!

Consider this the official announcement - my 3rd annual Hershey Prep Picnic will be on Saturday April 10th. For those who've been to my place before and those who attended the Fall Detail Day, you're familiar with the layout. Plenty of parking, we'll have a grill fired up, plenty of beverages and snacks and I'll supply the buckets and towels for washing and you're welcome to many other supplies as well. Bring whatever you want to work on, your favorite chemicals and products, and let me know of any food items for planning purposes. I'll line up my dent guy and clear out the shop so the lift will be available. Bring the wife, kids, etc. and this isn't limited to 968s, so I hope to see some new faces this time around.

Keep an eye on this thread for more info as things evolve and the date gets closer!

I just got a Android phone a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if this could be a part of the puzzle. Here is a short article on real-time streaming video options: http://droidfreeapps.com/2010/01/android-a...ideo-streaming/. Great phone by the way, got the Droid (Moto) on Verizon network, $200 with 2 year contract. Takes real nice videos, have already sent some to youtube, but haven't experimented with the streaming apps.

i will see if i can make it this year. Car is going to the shop at the end of the week. Need to get my wheels/tires balanced, do a 4 wheel alignment, change the oil/filter, repair a tiny power steering leak (trying to figure out where the leak is....takes about a year before the fluid is low enough to warrant adding more), and get a NYS Inspection done. ahhh...the joys of spring time prep.

Thanks for the bump, Pat. I was going to bump it myself later today! As the date draws nearer, I'll look to get a list of RSVP type responses so's to calculate food and beverage requirements. Hope to hear from some of the locals soon!

Rico, et al...sorry I guess I never posted the location/address and figured most folks knew where I am. My offices and "car hangout" is a couple miles from Dulles Airport in Sterling VA so using that as your landmark will give you a pretty good idea of drive time.

We decided to have our own "concours" at Hershey. There will be judging for 968s only based on people's choice. Have some fun and see how others prepare and keep their cars. Awards for the top 3 cabs and top 3 coupes.

If you show up at Darryl's prep picnic you might have a better chance of winning one of the coveted prizes.

Bump and update...

Spoke with an interior and leather repair person today who I've been meaning to get in touch with, so this was the perfect timing. She is very interested in the event and has all but confirmed, so get your rips and tears ready! I'm going to have my driver's seat bolster repaired and my Targa dash scrapes retouched. Still waiting on confirmation from my dent guy. Also posted on our local VA,MD,DC Porsche owners forum, so we should have some other P-cars to admire and probably the usual Ferrari or two. I'm hoping to have my friend bring his new California by.

Your friend is lucky. A friend of mine sold his 360 to buy a California last year and there was a 1 year wait when he ordered his. Still hasnt taken delivery of the vehicle.

"Lucky" is one word to describe it...he got the California 'cause the 575 Maranello and Limited Edition Maserati Gran Sport Victory Coupe were lonely!! He's a super nice guy and he and his wife have evolved into good friends since starting out as clients a few years back.

Bump for the weekend...

OK gang...essentially one week to go. I'd like to get a head count of people who are definite for food and beverage requirements. Those that are "maybe" should also let me know but I'm sure we'll have enough to go around!

Also, updates as of today 4/2/2010 are as follows:

Steve, my dent guy - is only about 20% possible due to his kid being on spring break next week and he may not be back in town for Saturday, but if he ends up not going anywhere, he'll be here and will let me know as the day gets closer. If anyone is seriously interested in dent work, please let me know and I will make other arrangements.

Michelle, the vinyl and leather lady, has been in contact with me and is very much on board...just need to confirm a couple of things with her.

I just checked the 10-day forecast and it's looking great. I look forward to seeing everyone one week from tomorrow!

Looks like there will a fair amount of non 968 Porsches there from the local Dorki crowd. Still unknown at this point as I may be heading to Buck's county that day.

Mark,

You are correct...after all, it is the Hershey (Porsche) Prep Picnic! There will be a handful of Ferrari types as well...my buddy is bringing his California over and we've got two Testarossas in the shop right now plus Antonio from Dorki should be bringing his in addition to the 964. Looks like a good turnout...come on down if you can!

Sorry I couldn't make it - got stuck working on a client's servers. Here are a few pics from one of the local Porsche guys who attended. We'll have to wait for Darryl to upload his pics for some 968 action.
