Shop just told me head gasket needs to be replaced. They say welding will basically cost same as Porsche part $2,500 and a 2-3 week wait.

Anyone have any idea where I might get one?

What caused the head gasket to fail?

Did it overheat?

Will just a gasket be needed? (Is head warped, sealing surface not flat?)

Sorry to sound negative, but just need to know if a gasket is all you need...and whether you have the right shop for the job.

Here's just one place to get the gasket (as low as $77): https://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/Sup...-seals.htm

Best wishes for a successful fix.

I would definitely take the car somewhere else for a second opinion, the head gasket is a big job, and with labour could come to that much, but I am seriously concerned about the welding comment,

the head set from Porsche is about $350, the rest of your cost is labour,

I would like to see a full breakdown of the work they are proposing,

I did the job some 20 years ago on mine, it sure is a big job to do.

But that price is insane without knowing whats wrong in that area
