Heated seat leather
#1

Hello all - I hope someone knows this answer. I have located a set of heated leather seats that will need to be recovered. Will have to go with generic hides, as Jeff @ Sunset tells me that heated seat leathers have been discontinued. He went on to say that the non-heated skins are still shown as available although there are none in stock in the US or Germany at this time. Anyone know definitively how the heated hides differ from the non-heated? Some type of heat shielding or the like? All Jeff could state was that they were a different part # for same seat / same color, heated vs non.

I have not heard of any differences but now that you mention it, it would make sense and I think you're probably close in the assumption that it's a lining or backing of some kind. I know you can get aftermarket seat heaters and the manufacturer of those don't say anything about potential damage to your seats, so perhaps there is a backing built into those aftermarket units. I'd talk to an upholsterer about recovering heated seats as I'm sure they've done it before. You can also check with World Upholstery or GAHH to see if they list something special or recommend something different. I hope to add a set of the aftermarket units to my Coupe someday so it may be interesting to know if there are issues, especially if the factory heated seats in the Cab ever need redone. Keep us posted.

Thanx Darryl. My repair shop is a VW/Audi specialist and I know that VW has issued recalls due to seat fires! Talk about being on the hot seat!! Different Porsche part #s suggest something is different. I'll keep looking, shout if I learn something, and perhaps someone else has more info.

i installed aftermarket seat heaters in the blue car, though i also have aftermarket seats to which i added them - no issues with the leather - no warnings about it either, including from a phone call to the manufacturer - when i ordered the porsche perforated leather to have the seats made, there was no option of heated or not heated
