Headlight trim
#1

Good morning, looking for guidance in replacing trim "ring" that wraps around the bottom of the headlight housing. Discovered that my passenger side light trim was missing one day recently when I was cleaning up the upper housing. Just picked up a replacement from 20th St Auto and now I'm ready to embark on what will hopefully be my 1st personal (successful!) repair job. Any and all guidance is greatly appreciated! Rubin

do NOT over tighten the screws

be patient - it's a pain in the butt - the plastic is very fragile, and a particularly poor design

thanks for reminding me - i need to get around to releasing the reinforcement bracket i designed years ago

So are there any tricks to getting access to the area under the headlight itself to install the ring? It seems like all
the plastics used by Porsche are prone to cracking I'm definately finding out you don't want to strong arm any
plastic components including "no brainer" caps and covers.

no - just pull on the handle, release the light into the service position and away you go

Ah, lots to learn. Guess it would help if I remove the front engine trim, DUH! Thanks for the help...all have a great weekend!

I bought two new rings about a year ago and never installed them because I could not figure out how to get the old rings off. I will be following your progress, so please update with all the obstacles and tricks

Some time ago I found the upper and lower trim rings on both headlights had cracks at the point where they attach to each other. The upper ones actually flopped around a bit. Nothing had broken away, so I tried Loctite "Stik'n Seal" which worked out to be compatible with that particular plastic. We'll see how long they last. ... John

I'll likely tackle this sometime in the next couple weeks. Looks to be a bit more disassembly than I was expecting including removal of the headlight itself. In addition to removing the plastic housing for the headlight, there's 3 add'l screws that have to be removed, 2 torx and 1 hex (I think, just going on "feel" right now, tight working quarters in there!)) that hold the headlight in place. Anyone happen to know what the screw sizes are? Looks like I'll have to deal with repairing some of the cracks in the plastic too, I'll have to try out that Loctite. I'll be back in touch with my progress and hopeful success, thx Rubin

Did you ever complete this job? Would be very interested in a write up and pictures.

Thanks!
