How do you clean a MAF?
#21

Yeah, I'm afraid that's been the case with most any non-repair thing I've ever done to a car. That goes for the fabled Run-Rite treatment, too. I did it to two of our cars (the 968 and the Minivan, so the two on the farthest extremes of the spectrum) and didn't detect one iota of difference in smoothness, idle quality, or gas mileage. I did detect a little more pep, though, thanks to the weight removed from my wallet .

Mine may actually be dirty. One of the clamps that connects the airbox outlet to the MAF was missing for a while before I noticed and the engine was not drawing only air that went through the air filter.

re: run-rite - that's surprising. i noticed quite a bit of difference, even when i just dumped a bottle into the denali, and didn't do the real treatment. on the cars i did the real treatment, it was a pretty big deal. bummer.

Re: run-rite, I've filled out their online web form twice requesting information and/or a local dealer/reseller, and I've had zero response.

I don't have a three-strike rule with websites. I have a one strike rule. But because it was touted here, I gave them a second chance to lose my business.

I think a lot of Midas shops offer Run-Rite; that's where I had it done. The tip-off that it wouldn't do anything for me was that very little smoke came out the tailpipe with either car during the procedure - the tech said that with dirty intakes, they see a lot of smoke. I can't explain why both of our cars were so clean. Of course, you won't know that until you actually do the procedure.

Sorry for the topic diversion - back to MAF cleaning...

MAF cleaning on my Audi cleared a persistent CEL and logging the data you could see the difference.

Unforgettably I have to agree, no change. Kinda like the bulk of the in tank carb cleaners, fuel additives, oil additives, etc I've used over years. Only thing different was my wallet.
