Dirty MAF
#1

I noticed that there's a lot of gunk buildup on my MAF wire (inside). What's the cleaning procedure? Should I use brake cleaner on the wire? Use a soft cloth or maybe a q-tip?

Any ideas out there from those that have BTDT?

Thanks,

Phil

CRC makes a maf cleaner in aerosol that works reasonably well. Used it on my 968 and my 330i.... local auto parts stores carry it for around $5.

Yes, check out the thread started by TomInAustin about this product. People who have tried it have been very happy with it. I believe the thread is called something like "Ohmigod, run out and get this stuff right now!" which speaks volumes about the enthusiasm toward the product. And from what I've read elsewhere, I wouldn't physically touch the wire with anything, because it's very delicate, and VERY expensive to replace, as I think you have to replace the whole MAF if the wire is damaged. Good luck.

Another option, particularly if you suspect your injectors could use a thorough cleaning, would be a RunRite treatment: they clean the MAF as part of the process.

Actually my injectors are all new - so I think I'll go with just the cleaner. But thanks for the link!
