Need water pump!!!
#1

Mine's leaking like crazy.

Can't find one anywhere.

Don't want to go the junkyard route for obvious reasons.

I'm in a jam here; anyone have any ideas?

When I went to get mine replaced, the mechanic told me that you can only get new ones, and there aren't any more refurbished ones. Not sure how much truth there is to that, but I figured new is better than used with high stress parts like a water pump. Can't recall how much it cost off hand though.

Call 210-657-1111, ask for Kathy. You can order one from her and she'll drop ship it to you. It's Jones Autowerks here in San Antonio. Hours are 8-5 CST, M-F. Tell her I told you to call...

Automotion.com

$230 (including core and gasket) $20/30 shipping 1-6 days (depending on you local) unit comes from cali

core is $100 so you get that back when you send your old one back

Our local shop ordered one to replace mine, and wasn't happy with the materials used in that aftermarket version. Ended up getting a new OEM one from Porsche.

Try Sunset Porsche. Cheapest prices on all things I've found so far.

Thanks, all. Sunset, and Porsche dealers, can't get any. But I'll try these other leads.

Wow, that's a pretty bad item to have in short supply. Good luck.

I came back to this thread too late to call Jones Autowerks, so I dealt with Automotion, who had only rebuilt pumps. Placed an order: this car's my daily driver.

It appears that Porsche-rebuilt and new pumps are just nowhere to be found.

Thanks to all who've responded here.

Yeah, I didn’t like the idea of a rebuild for my 968 but, it was available and as a auto tech I installed allot for to dealers/garages I worked for with minimal come backs

i've never had a rebuilt unit fail prematurely on any car, that first passed my preliminary inspections - i've had units fail my inspections though, that likely would have failed, had i installed them

that being said, for my own cars, i still always buy new when i can - i figure that i will get less arguments or hassles on returns that way

I just went through this hassle. My water pump failed at 117,000 miles. Took the car into my repair shop, Bauer Porsche repair in Oakland. They replaced it with a rebuilt pump, it leaked heavily, they replaced ithe first rebuilt pump with another rebuilt pump from the same source, same problem, leaked right out of the box. So they ordered a new one, took a couple of weeks to get it, installed it and we are leak free. It was my understanding that they got the new one out of Germany. You might give them a call and ask where the sourced the parts from. They can be reached at 510 834-2772.

You Guys aren't making me feel better !

If this lasts the summer I'll be happy (just got the car, had it inspected b4 and then the darn pump fails when I get it home. Total of about 60 miles on the thing)

I ran into the same brick walls when I replaced mine a couple of months ago. The reman unit I got from Vertex was junk so I returned it. I lucked out and found a new one from a private seller.

The one I replaced was working fine when I pulled it. However, I was replacing every belt, roller and tensioner so I really wanted to replace the pump while I was in there. I would sell my good used one for $50 plus shipping.
