Need heater core O-ring - asap
#1

Well, I need to replace my heater core and so I placed orders for all the necessary parts. Unfortunately, the order for the O-rings did not work as planned.

Now I have a track event in 2 weeks, and special order parts from Porsche take longer than that ...

So what are my options at this point? Does anyone know where these might be in stock? Or is there a replacement part of the same dimensions (it's just an O-ring after all).

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

I am talking about this part: 944.572.188.00

It is number 7 in the linked diagram http://dcauto.gotdns.com/illustration/index/161365907

Yep, that is where I tried to buy them.

But no, this part is special order only, and it takes about 10 business days to arrive. I learned this after placing an order for all the parts, and then after 4 business days they informed me that the clips that were part of the order are special delivery from Germany which takes three additional weeks, and that the whole order was placed on hold. After talking to them on the phone, I got the 7-10 business day estimate for the o-rings. That is why I am looking for alternatives...

Thanks for the suggestion though - Pelican is usually a pretty good source for parts.

P.S.: Ah, I now see my mistake. The two heater hoses (rest of the order) are special Porsche parts - the O-rings are not and ship right away. I assumed all the remaining parts were special ...

Well oping your eyes helps - or having someone open them for you.

Thanks for your help!

I would suggest they are a standard metric O ring, PET does not have the size it does for some but not that one.

I would take it down to you local bearing suppliers and they will match it up.

If you really want genuine Porsche I can order it here from OPC (Porsche centre) be here by Monday, and chuck them in the Air mail to you, they are 85 cents each here

they are also used in all 944 and 944S2

Thanks for all the offers to help - this forum is really great!

In the end, I went ahead and ordered them from Pelican - they had 3 day shipping at a reasonable price and I should have them on Monday.

Thanks again!

Just to post the end of the story: The order was pending for 1.5 days, and then I got an email that the rings have to be shipped from Porsche as well, and that the three day delivery is not possible. I then cancelled as the parts will not arrive in time.

However, I spoke to my shop in the meantime, and they told me to to worry about the o-rings - they will find a solution. So I will (have to) go with that. Live and learn.
