Heater core, the second round - help needed!

After my first adventures (see here http://www.968forums.com/topic/14834-nee...ring-asap/) I took the car to the shop.

 

They were able to take out the old heater core in less than an hour (including glove box removal), and the replacement slid right in. But now they have encountered a road block: The cannot get the clips (944.572.287.00, part 7) that connect and press the tubes together back on. The found matching o-rings (even thinner than the original ones), but no luck in getting the heater core hooked up.

 

Did anyone here do this job before, and did they encounter the same problem? What was the solution?

Or in general, any thoughts and what else they might try? Could the o-rings still be wrong (maybe they are a different material)?

 

 

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Did mine a few months ago and got my heater core, clips and o rings from local Brumos Porsche. No issues and slipped together. Actually one of the easiest jobs on the 968.

Hmmm, then there is something really strange going on here.

 

Do you remember the o-rings? anything special about them?

No, seemed like a standard o ring. Clips just slipped over both collars. Almost too easy to seal but worked.

Thanks for the information! The shop finally did get the clips on and everything seemed fine - but then they pressure tested the setup and it turned out that the new (used) heater core leaks where the tubes connect to the main body.

 

Now I have to order a replacement part for the replacement parts, and the work starts all over again ...

 

At least they connected the two tubes with a hose (bypassing the core), so I can at least make it my track event next week end.

 

Oh well, the older you get, the more you realize that things like these are just minor setbacks in life ...

Minor? Boy you sure are pretty cavalier about this! Perhaps it's just your inexperience in this. Generally you need to blow a transmission and engine within two weeks to reach this stage of understanding. Do you chant?

Hey, no talking about blown motors or transmissions! Wink Don't jinx it!

 

Also, I still need to make sure the bypass works as intended no surprise can surprise me anymore at that state....
