Heater Duct Gaskets - NLA
#1

When I took the instrument cluster out to work on the voltmeter, I saw that the gasket(s) that seal the heater/AC air outflow to the ducts had pretty much turned to foam powder. It looks to me in the PET, Illustration 813-00, that there are two parts involved, positions 10 and 11 (and maybe 11A. I have no idea what the difference is.). Part numbers 94457220100 and 94457216201. A call to Sunset shows these are NLA from Porsche and the system shows no NOS at any dealers.

Mine were so deteriorated I couldn't use them as templates to make something up out of weather stripping or something like that. Has anyone else seen this, worked on this, fixed this??? It appears that these parts are also used on all the older 944 models going back to 1985. Ideas?

You could probably make a template out of cardboard, or foam board to fit the OD, or ID of the mating members depending on how the original piece sealed. Seems like the ones of these I've seen in the past on other cars were made from open cell foam. So they aren't doing a perfect job of sealing or they'd have used closed cell. If open cell is OK, there should be places in your town where you can purchase this in various thicknesses. Most upholstery shops will know where to buy it. Worst case if you don't get it sealed very well, it'll still probably be better than it is now.
