H&R springs forever on backorder
#1

I ordered Koni strut tube inserts and H&R lowering springs about 1 month ago. Jason from Paragon Products called and said that no springs were comming soon. (They were backorded since before X-Mas)

There are coilover alternatives but I can't afford ~$1200 for new springs and struts. Any suggestions or other setups?

I found Intrax springs but I have no idea if they are any good. Anybody with experience or knowledge of Intrax?

http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/por96892uplo.html

All suggestions welcome.

OH yah, I almost forgot, Paragon said they were going to "talk" to a spring mfg. about making some for Paragon to sell.

HELP PLEASE.... my front end is soggy

Interesting. Haven't heard of anyone using the Intrax springs. 1.5" is a lot of drop.

A quick search also turned up B+G Springs too! http://www.drivewire.com/performanceparts/...ingsprings.html

If you are not set on the progressive H&R like springs, you can get a linear coilover setup for the front also through paragon ($240). Kit includes a threaded collar, upper and lower perch, as well as spring and bump stop. Very affordable as I recall (just a little more than H&Rs). I'm running 200lbs (any rate you want). Car feels great.

I'm looking to get the H&R springs too. The B&G springs sound interesting, they are a european tuner, maybe there are some better prices out there....

there is no real rocket science to winding a spring - eibach, h&r, and most of the other companies all make springs that are of equivelant quality - the only thing to really look hard at is the spring rate and resultant ride height

my car is dropped 1.75" - i have a lot of problems with clearnace - i have scraped the heck out of my cat, have reshot my splitter once already, after this last weekend's wine tasting trip with PCA, i get to do it again - only dropping 1", like with the h&r, has not resulted in nearly as many issues

No wonder your cat has mental problems. You are using her as a skid plate! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I was going to call Jason and check the status of my spring order this week but I won't bother him now. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Bob,

If your splitter is cracked.....poor kitty......you might try reinforcing it from the underside with 1/8" black abs plastic cut from a sheet. Much stronger than "tape". If you have a TAP Plastics outlet near you, (being in S.Cal everything should be near you,) they have a scraps bin with wonderful sizes and thickness to choose from. I have used the ABS plastic on many items and found it very forgiving to work with. It can be heated with a heat gun and molded to almost any shape you like.

I've been entertaining the idea of shaping my own front splitter from 1/4" ABS. Fun project and almost throw away cost if I damage the kitty.

Jason,

Thanks for the offer.

450 lbs. seems rather stiff to me, would they be track only springs at that rate?

Unless 450 total? 450/2=225 each?

i LOVE TAP plastics - wish they were down here

reinforcing isn't really the problem - that would actually make the problem worse

i didn't crack the splitter itself - just the paint - i hit a rock when the car dipped on a dirt road

i have already worked out some skid blocks for underneath - i'll post pics on that

the problem is the front surface is still exposed - a peel away easily replaced vinyl tape will likley be the best solution - then when i scuff it, i can replace it quickly

No, the rate is not 450 total....we moved to 700 lbs springs; but, you have to remember we removed the torsion bars.

LD...

join the club, some others have been waiting since THANKSGIVING!

I ordered B&G progressive springs for a few $ more but they are in stock and I'll have them by the weekend! Total $270 shipped, less if you do not live in CA. (taxes) free shipping. 1 1/4" drop. I believe the springs rate is ~190 - 220lbs. I cannot find where I read that, I could be wrong.

Rustek, thanks for the coilover Idea. It's a good one. I think if the wifee did not ride in the car I would have gone that route. I like the adjustability of the COs. I prefered the progressives to try to keep it as soft as possible around town (again for the wifee).

Greimann, thanks for pointing me to that link, they had the best price on the net. I ordered through them. Thanks again. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Flash, I understand....just paint loss. Sorry, seems like you are always painting something on your car. Fenders, Fenders, splitters (fenders twice <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) There are better ways to loose weight from the car

Thanks for everyones input, It is appreciated. Thanks for sharing knowledge.

Hey SilverBLT keep us updated on how you like the B&G springs, I'm ready to upgrade and Paragon still says its gonna be a while for the H&Rs, Jason also mentioned
Quote:H&R seems to be battling a pretty substantial supply issue. We will be offering our own Paragon springs soon…details to come!

Mech,

Things (work) has slowed down a little this week so I'll start my suspension project soon,

B&G springs came in and they are bright red! They should show well on the outside of the bright yellow Koni struts <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> DriveWire shipped quickly and for free (at least there was no additional $ for shipping, nothings free)

They are 1 1/4" drop Variable Rate springs. I will drop the rear torsion bars to the max, I hope it will be enough of a drop in the rear to prevent "pushing" the front in corners. Understeer? I always get 'em mixed up. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Pics and updates soon!

Cool beans! The guy I bought my short-shift kit from (944 Racing) had a set of H&R springs that had about 1500-2000 miles on them. (His other customer decided that his car was going to be track only and is replacing them with 500lb springs.) So not only am I not waiting on back-order any more, but I get them at 1/2 price!

How cool is that! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
