this one is very subjective

i have always loved chrome - had many cars with nice chrome grills

then i fell in love with the cobra - after that, i was doing no grill or black

on this car, i like the look of "no grill" or rather the look of a big open mouth - it looks more aggressive and wider - the black ones are as near to that as i can get, as i don't want to run completely without one

i never have liked stainless, though i know it is the current trend in grills - on this car, it takes my attention away from the lines and curves of the wings of the car, and draws it to one of the least attractive areas of the car (the front bumper cover with another one of the concave surfaces)

but, as i said, very subjective

Yes, this is all very subjective. I personally like the look of the front of the 968 (other than the goofy lay-flat headlights, and even these are slowly beginning to grow on me), but agree that a grill that stands out too much doesn't look right. I do dislike the distinct "buck tooth" look of the standard grill, so any solution that eliminates that, without drawing too much attention to itself, is an improvement in my opinion.

lol - one of these days i will finally get around to working out the things of the 968 body that i don't like - all of the concave surfaces and all of the hard edges will disappear, and become smooth curves, one fading into the next

but, that's another project for another day

i will work out a new front grill one of these days too - as much as i like it, the material that dave's is made of bends and breaks too easily for any regular cleaning (i'm on my second one now), and paint doesn't hold up well enough either - i will probably do something similar, but with a retainer mechanism - the other day, i came across what i think will work

unfortunately this project too is behind a few others

I may send my new grills out for black hardcoat (similar but a little harder than anodize) or I may have it powder coated.

Just put the black mesh grill in from Doster, looks fantastic, doesn't draw any attention but when you look at it it blends in nicely.

Got to say thanks again.

Would you mind posting a picture? Several with the mesh grills have been posted already, but it never hurts to have a look from a different angle, with different lighting, etc. Thanks.

Ok! Since I am on my way to 100 posts (and this is my 100th!) and since I just installed new Griemann grills on Saturday I thought I would post some pics of them. Before, during, and after.

The black grill on a black body looks really nice.

I noticed that you do not have the airbox mod. Do you have plans to do the mod.? It would make a great improvement at very little cost and time invested.

It is on my list of things to do. I still need to order some trim rings from crutchfield though.

Yes, I was lucky enough to get them from Dave, when he had his site on line.

You will be amazed at the engine sound and power change for so easy and fast a mod.

After reviewing all of the grill ideas and having one of Dave's top grills that has broken tabs due to repeated bending, I have decided to try another idea.

As I have a polar silver cab and like the "bended in" look, I have decided to "silver" and clean up the front end.

So far I have changed the gold Porsche crest to chrome;

Removed the black rubber bumperettes by using Euro lenses;

Had the body shop remove the two front holes for the license plate holder;

I have also had the body shop paint the stock lower grill to match the body color;

This evening I painted the OEM top grill to body color as well.

If I could only paint the lights and lenses polar silver the darn thing would disappear like James Bond's car!

lol

I'll see how it looks in the daylight.

I just got my grills yesterday, decided to go with silver. I'm planning on putting the top one in tomorrow, so I'll get some before and after pictures while I'm at it. These grills look a lot more open than the stock one, more air flow to the airbox? Ram air effect at high speed?

As for the airbox, I tried doing something different with my setup and got 4 pipe connectors. After hours of filing they look like makeshift velocity stacks. The external diameter is just over 2 3/8", while the internal diameter is about 2", so who knows if they help more than the rings, but it sounds nice
