Gear Shift Leather Replacement
#1

My gear shift knob is worn and I have been filling it full of Dubbin however, I have been looking at replacing it. Found these retimmed ones on Ebay from the UK. Has anyone tried one of these or one like it?

Thanks,

I just did that on my blue 968. I bought the leather boot from Rennbay for $42 - I wish I had bought the leather one on eBay for $20.

This is a nice easy project. You will need to keep your original shift knob cap so pry it out very carefully or you can buy a new shift cap on Rennbay for $21. They also sell a Porsche crest cap that's very nice but $40.

I bought one from this seller last year and found it a nice quality replacement leather. However it was a bit wider than I would have liked and found it difficult to get a factory finish around the insert (difficult to get all the folds (sp?) spaced evenly). In the end I used an iron to shrink the leather a little which improved the fit considerably and compared to a $200+ replacement from porsche I am happy with the end result.
