Re-Finishing Leather seats
#1

I would like to touch-up my leather seats. The rear ones have some brownish dis-colouration on the front edge. I believe my colour is Light Grey ( It's almost white). Can someone confirm the colour please (1993 968). Also, Can you recommend any kits.

I think some of the seats were vinyl and leather. I had the same brown bleed thru on the door panels. the upper part next to the windows. It was the glue bleeding thru. I had to replace that section with Porsche Vinyl. Sorry to hear your problem is in the seats.

As the previous post indicated, you will have to determine what is leather and what is vinyl on your car. I have a Cab 968 with no backseat so I cannot help you there. This website:   http://www.leatherique.com/ has excellent information on the care and repair of leather (and vinyl) including dyeing. I have used their products for decades and swear by them. On many of my project cars, their products have successfully restored leather that most people said was impossible. I note that they have a distributor in New Zealand--phone # 07 847 8574 or email   sales@por15.co.nz

In all likelihood, you should probably redye the entire seat as opposed to trying a touch up.

Thanks again Bob. I went through the process of getting swatches from them to fix the sun-damaged tops of my Classic Grey door cards last year and damned if could find them, or remember the name of the company!

I used a kit from Leatherworld.com the results were "OK"...ended up having new seats covers made a few years later. It was a lot of prep, and taaping everything off was a huge PITA.

I took my car to a shop that does tops and interiors and they replaced the tops of my door cards with a matching grey vinyl and it was reasonably priced. The seats are all leather faced with vinyl sides and back unless you have the rare Porsche script fabric seats. I think they can be painted back to original color by a specialist. These guys can fill the cracks and make the seats look new again at the loss of some softness. I thing the PO of my car had that done as I used leatherique on my seats and the stuff would not soak in. I have had my car for quite some time and the seats still look good, but the surface is quite hard and not supple.
