Front sway bar orientation

You didn't put the bar on upside down did you? Someone on the site did this and the bar was in contact with the control arm, but it went on. I can not see how you would be getting too much feedback any other way.

I'm pretty sure I didn't but I will double check this weekend. I know the bar is not in contact with the control arm but I am definitely getting more feedback than I think I should. Perhaps I am just spoiled rotten with the M3.

Quick question. I am in the process of replacing the sway bar bushings, both center and end. How in the heck do you get the clip open in order to get the old bushing off and at the same time not bend it out of "round" when installing the new bushing. Do you use new clips with new bushings?

Replaced sway bar bushings, both centers and ends. I am still getting the "thunk" sound from the front passenger side. Any idea what it could be? Perhaps its the struts?...

Ok all, I'm back from a tour of duty in the middle east. I'm gonna replace the castor blocks as recommended by a forum member. I hope this eliminates the "thunk" sound once and for all. If not, it will be back to the drawing board.

Reviving this thread for a bit. I received the M030 sways from RSB but alas there are no instructions for the installation. The front one I figured out after a few trials, that extra bracket orientation and where it goes. The rear I do not want to install incorrectly; how do the heim joint drop links go on and where do those funky conical washers go? Does any one have a good exploded picture of the RSB install so all the washers and bits go in properly?

Sorry DaveN, I do not have an answer for you. Hopefully you have it figured out by now. I finally installed the castor blocks and it appears I got rid of the loud "thunk". Thanks for the info all.

Yeah the orientation of the front bar is easy to screw up. I had mine installed wrong and was swearing up and down that the drop links weren't going in... then I tried flipping the bar 180˚ and the drop links fell right into place. I'll probably put the dang thing in wrong next time too. Don't forget the round clamps that will keep the bar from 'walking' side to side.



The rear bar only goes in one way, so you can't mess that up. I should be receiving new Racer's Edge solid drop links and delrin inner mounts for my rear bar in the mail any day now and will post pics of how the drop links install - unless someone beats me to it.

Got the parts. Yes, the Racers Edge rear sway bar inner mounts are anodized billet aluminum - very nicely made and finished. I will be dremelling some grooves into the delrin bushings to better hold the grease in there, then getting these parts on asap! BTW, the drop links I received say they're made my KLA Industries - I ordered these parts from Paragon.

you may not like that stuff



i gave up on the kla droplinks after 2 sets of them rattled from the soft bearings wearing out. the ball was somewhat loose fitting to begin with on both sets brand new



i also was not happy with the racer's edge blocks. the made a racket until i greased them, and then when i greased them, the bar slid back and forth left to right, putting a side load on the drop links, which changed the effective leverage making the car feel weird from turn to turn. i ended up having to put shaft collars on the sway bar to hold things in place. it was a lot more effort and hardware than i had hoped, and i should have stayed with rubber on the rear. i have polyurethane there now, with grease fittings, and am much happier.

You're right, Flash. The four ball parts in the drop links do have a tiny amount of play in them. I would expect them to be tighter when new. Perhaps I should return them - is there another brand that's better? They all looked the same to me.



I already have two 19mm shaft collars on hand and will definitely be using them up against the inner mounts.

i am testing some right now. i don't have enough miles on them yet though to know if they will last, but they are better bearings for sure.

Yes I bought two 30mm collars for the front, but you found me a pair of 19mm ones rattling around in one of your garage drawers!

I was under the (newbie) impression that Delrin bushing were run dry. Should I be greasing them?

normally yes, they would be dry. however, after not long the bushings in the racer's edge blocks started making noise. not really sure why. tolerance issues likely. don't sweat it if they are quiet.
