Best looking cars ever
#41

I think the nature of having a stable like this is that you can not only afford to buy such a collection, but also the means to maintain it. This owner made it very clear that he did not buy these cars to sit, and he actively drives each of them (OK, the Alpina is his wife's car for the summer and he is holding back on the Jag). He has such a vast fortune that he has staff dedicated to maintaning all of his motorized playtoys, and each was in absolutely pristine condition. The cars are shipped to whichever of his houses he is staying, and he helicopters/flies to his destination.

If this were ArchitecturalForums.com I wouldn't know where to begin in describing his house <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Little off line, but I was at the Jersey Shore for the 4th and one nite we are outside eating an ice cream cone next to the 968 and a guy pulls up in the Audi A6, a new one. He gets out, stops and is transfixed looking at my car. You could see he was lost in thought. He asks me, "is that your car"? The usual questions ensue. He then further goes on to explain he had a 968 at age 50 in his, as he joked, mid-life crisis. He of course had to get rid of it. It was so cool watching this older fellow just totally grooving on the car and tripping back in time to a uber pleasant remembrance! I agree with Cloud that I would hate to have a great car and be more inclined to garage rather than drive it. Jay you lucky dog.

Jay,

OK, I admit your friend must have a truly great life (not being one prone to class envy, I'm sure he had to work very hard to achieve the level of wealth he currently enjoys), as expressed through his car collection. I was thinking more in terms of having considerably more modest means, whether I would enjoy actually owning (only one of) many of the cars on our list. My conclusion is that I get more enjoyment of admiring these automotive works of art than I probably would owning them. Although I might be able to make an exception in the case of the Vantage. Or the Z8. Or a 355. Or a 360. Or....

I think the 968 suits my needs perfectly from the standpoint of rare, exotic, affordable fun...not that many cars that fit the bill...other than my usual suspects NSX or G37S Convertible.

And...I don't think any other group of "car people" have as much fun as we do!!! (I mean that sincerely)

That's true - the best thing about the 968, in my opinion, is that it does so many things well, and it looks great doing it.
