Firewall brace is in!
#21

Yeah, it is pretty tight, but if you follow the method I described in the first post of this thread, you shouldn't have any problems. Good luck.

tech tip: use a dab of RTV on the nut as you put it in the socket. it will hold it in place as you snake it down into that spot.

My P mechanic really liked your design. He said he had seen some strut tower braces before, but nothing as clean, straight and solid as yours. As for the firewall brace, he said a one piece would have been stronger BUT, there is so little room that it would have been nearly impossible to install. He thought your design was a really good way to deal with the small space.

thanks!

lol - yes, getting that little bugger in there was definitely a challenge. there was no way to do a one piece. believe me, i tried. i went through quite a few different shapes, always running into the same problems of immovable things in the way. finally the two piece came about.

I concur. Both the firewall brace and the chassis brace are first rate products. Everyone should consider them, budget permitting (not that they're unfairly priced!)

Going slightly off-topic here, but the end justifies the means, I hope

I really want the braces (firewall more so than strut, but in the end I need one for the other..) but Bob's shipping quote through UPS I'd rather spend on the a couple of tanks of gas (and gas is $8,5 a gallon here...).

Sooo... I'd need a more economical means of transport, but Bob has indicated he has no time to stand in line at the post office etc, which of course I respect. But that leaves me without the braces

Anyone willing to receive the parts (after I paid them) and forward them to me using USPS? USPS should only be like 60 bucks, rather than 350+.

Of course I'd offer some compensation (yet to be discussed) for the effort!

i just did a quick check, and even through USPS its over $120. UPS is about $275 (i did a quick plug in of a guess of size and weight).

i think by the time you added the UPS from here to wherever, and then the USPS from there to you, you'd be about the same.

i hate paying for shipping.. when the heck are we going to get that teleporter anyway?

Hmm might've used wrong parcel data then, I came up with less than 60. But you're right, not worth the effort probably if USPS is 120... Screw my firewall then!
