thermostat oil cooler bad
#1

my thermostat failed , in the picture the right one is bad , stuck half open , when i heated it up i did move further but did not check a what temp .

Indications where , lower than normal oilpressure when cold .

pressure normal warm at around 2500rpm was 4.5 bar , and with bad thermostat just above 4 bar .

Pressure taking longer time to settle , also coolant temperature was acting different , hard to explain , but after owning the car for so many years you get a feel for it , and things where of .

to make sure it was bad , i drove the car for about 3 miles slow pace , outside temp around 60 degrees , not enough time for the car to heat up completly , then when i went to feel the hose and oilcooler they where allready warm , this should not happen with a opening temp of 95 c .

so removed the thermostat , which is a pain to get to , made my own tool and got it done .

Expect oil everywhere , decided to do an oil change as well , fresh oil and normal pressure indications again .

Never heard of one fail , anyone else had one go bad ??
