Thermostat snap ring
#1

Ok, now that I got the car to run descent, it appears to be running a little hot so I'm in the process of changing the thermostst. What's the trick in getting the snap ring out of the housing. I even bent my snap ring pliers... but still can't get it out.. any tricks. Please don't tell me I have to remove the waterpump to get to it.

Kevin, I sympathize with you on that snap ring! I broke the tips on my snap ring pliars trying to get it out without removing the water pump. I think removing and replacing the water pump at the same time is the best solution. There just isn't much room to get the leverage needed to collapse the snap ring with the water pump on the engine. If you remove the radiator it will give you much better access. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

I used 2 heavy duty dental probes when I did the t-stat on my old 944.

The ring on the 968 T-Stat is slightly over engineered. LOL

Ok... just went to Harbor Freight to pick up a set of heavy duty pliers. I'll see if that does the trick! WHAT A BATTLE!!!!!!!!

Ok.... I won the battle with the snap ring. Found a larger 90 degree set of snap ring pliers and popped her out in 2 seconds. It worked so well I had to hit the EASY BUTTON.
