'New" 92 - cigarette lighter socket dead - alarm ? dead
#1

Hi there to all from NZ

well - sorting through the car I've just purchased -all a bit different from the 73 911 I've just sold....a few more fuses, and a lot more systems!

As I don't have an owners manual with the car I don't actually know what I'm supposed to have as tandard - the car is a very early 92 ( no airbag) and has 130 KM on the clock.

Questions -

1 - did these cars come with an alarm as standard? - car has Porsche system alarm stickers in the windows, but there does not seem to ne any system operative - i presume that the sensor next to the cigar lighter socket was at some point a flashy-sensor thing...

2 - do ROW 968's have this very useful CEL code facility, or was that just USA cars....does it even have a CEL as standard - red light lights up below r/h oil gauge- presume that is low oil indicator...

3 - the fuse is missing from the Cigar lighter circuit - (25amp) = I'd like to use this to power an Ipod, but wondering if this has been removed in conjuction with disabling the standard alarm, or due to another factor...- there's a few random cut wires about - so poss an aftermarket alarm was fitted, and then later removed

Car has central locking, but locking pins do not flash, as I've seen mentioned in other posts...key to open car looks standard - with button for (now-non-functioning) key-light

I've some hard starting issues also, but will post a question on the engine forum,,,

Any help gratefully recieved!

Cheers

Chris

I think the alarm is standard as my 92 has it and there is no special option code on the sticker. The alarm is however very basic and is only triggered by opening doors, hatch or engine lid. The alarm is activated when you lock the car with the key in the lock and the door pins should start to flash (first rapidly and then slower). Do your door pins look like they have a transparent top? You can disable the alarm by turning the key a few time but I think it is only temporary. There is no sensor for the standard alarm next to the cigar lighter.

ROW cars do not have the CEL light.

Hi JAap -cheers for that - haven't seen the door pins flash - though they are transparent - was going to get an aftermarket alarm/immobilizer fitted in Dunedin in a few weeks.

Pity about not having a CEl - didn't think I'd seen it on start-up - looks like a really useful feature! will look on w/s manual pdf - i think i read the same thing could be done with a timing light - will inv....

Cheers

The little 'sensor' next to the lighter socket is for the cabin temp for the A/C system, a rubber hose runs from it to the sensor unit up behind the glove box

Trip reset is in the center air vent. On left hand drive cars (don't know what you have in NZ) it is the middle rib of the leftmost part of the air vent. The reset is electronic so probably need to switch on ignition. Common practice is not to reset the tripmeter while moving, although from having a look at the actual mechanism in the trip meter I think it will not harm anything.

DO NOT RESET While on the move or you will find out about replacing the stripped gear....
