Electric cars

Quote:I read today that 4,000 cybertrucks were recalled - one guy washed his and it took a 5 hour reset protocol before it would run again and the manual says you can't wash it in direct sunlight....

Yea, I would pay $80K for that.....

Seriously...what is wrong with people...lol
I bought a new pair of leather walking boots the other week and the maintenance advice said not to expose them to sunlight either...

Best of luck with that, Ferrari. Maybe they will come up with something that meets their goals of maintaining the heart of a combustion engine with the necessary electrification (due to hydrogen's pathetic energy density by volume), but if they come in at under $1 million for it, I'll be shocked. Plus another $5 million or so for the hydrogen fueling station that will have to come with it.

From the Maserati forum : a member from Switzerland posted this excerpt from this month’s issue of a major German automotive magazine ( Sport Auto ) ,

Ferrari is focussing on hydrogen combustion engines. In the meantime, the wind has changed at Ferrari, according to reports from the motorsport corner. Since 2023, Ferrari has been actively involved in negotiations for prototype regulations with hydrogen engines, which are to apply in LeMans from 2027. Internally, Ferrari has come to the realisation that it will not be possible to sell purebred two-seater sports cars without a mechanical heart in the medium term. In the event that the EU-wide ban on combustion engines actually comes into effect in 2035, Ferrari is now focussing on a hydrogen combustion engine. Ferrari has applied for patents for a spectacular hydrogen combustion engine. The hydrogen combustion engine is linked to a also very spectacular hybrid concept: energy is diverted from the front axle via brake recuperation, which drives two compressors that in turn charge the H2 combustion engine. This would allow Ferrari to kill two birds with one stone: they could possibly use an H2 combustion engine in LeMans in 2027, while at the same time offering a hypercar with the same concept for the road. “

I totally agree on the assessment of many of the major automakers that hybrids make the most sense int he near term. Toyota has really knocked it out of the park with the new Prius.

Just reread the excerpt - I see Ferrari is working on it for a hypercar after the racing application. Make that $5 million for the car. That will save the planet for sure Wink

I don't know if it's still this way, but when I was selling Toyotas years ago, they were just licensing their old hybrid tech to the other makers such as Ford who then rebranded them. I imagine Honda does the same.

Still don't want one.

Not surprised - this technology just isn't ready for large-scale acceptance. It's weird - electric cars haven't been a total flop - just look at the number of Tesla's on the road - but the rate of adoption hasn't come close to meeting projections. I guess all the early adopters have adopted, but the rest of the population remains skeptical. And the thorny issue of how to charge EV drivers to make up for the loss of gas tax revenue hasn't even made it into any policy discussions that I'm aware of. That would definitely scare off a lot of people who may be on the fence about buying an EV.

So Tesla sales are slumping significantly with no optimism for the future ( considering the increasing competition from other EVs ) , their stock has taken a dump , and yet Tesla Board is asking investors for this : Tesla asks shareholders to restore $56B Elon Musk pay package that was voided by Delaware judge. WTF !

$ 56 Billion ! I’m all for capitalism and CEOs ( at successful companies !! ) getting tens of millions in compensation / rewards, or hundreds of millions in stock, but even a billion , much less 56 billion , for a company that’s failing, sales forecast is disastrous, and laying off employees, is …obscene !! IMO .

I'm appalled! Okay so this is not a cheap product and hence I don't feel the need to reduce profits by reducing the cost to the end user, but I do believe these obscene profits should somehow find there way back to the less well off. I'm all for capitalism and rewarding the risk-takers .... but is it a risk when you increase profits by transferring production to a cheaper country, thus putting local workers on the jobless pile at the expense of everyone else's taxes? Spoken by someone who has never owned/run a business, so I won't duck if you start throwing things.

The new plan - release a bottle of Tesla tequila at $450 a bottle. That will generate some income.

Not even half as interesting or useful as the flame thrower was.
