How much for a custom cage.



I have been quoted £1500 + vat for a RS style cage



Any thoughts - is this expensive?

Does the cage penetrate the fire wall and go all the way the the strut towers like Jasons (paragon) 968 rs, I am involved with a e46 M3 club car one of my best friends here in Houston Designed and built the cage and There was around $700 in materials alone, this is a little overkill for a club car but the owner was not sure where he is going to go with the car, we worked out that if he was charging someone to build a cage similar to this one it would cost around $3000-$3500, so personally i dont think that it sound like too much money for a good quality cage, there is ALOT of work involved,

Graham - the 'base' price on my cage was $2500, plus materials, plus extra bracing to the footwell, plus paint, plus cutting out the old cage. It adds up quite easily. The price varies quite a bit by shop and what exactly is being done. In the end it is worth the money if a 'pro' does it. I would expect a custom cage to be in the $2000 - 4500 range when finished.

My cage was about $2,500...Although it's only a 6-point cage.



It doesn't go through the firewall like Jason's from Paragon.

does adding all that cage allow you to remove material elsewhere? i've always been the guy who runs the smallest amount of cage tubing possible unless i can remove material to compensate for weight - old school - heck, i remember when they were optional all together

the M3 with all that cage still has to run 200 + pounds of lead to make the legal weight limit for BMWCCA regulations,

odd - wonder why that is - in a class where all the cars are the same, you'd think they would set the weight based on the car's natural weight - in scca, wehre you ahve different cars, i can understand the need to even them out by establishing weights that even things out based on engine displacement and such - do the M3s run in a group with other slower cars?

Based on the HP on the side it appears to be setup for the H Prepared class and would be running at something near the stock weight, 3200+. No wonder the cage is built like that - there was a lot of weight to be put back in.

My cage weiged in around 105 lbs...I can't imagine how much that one is.

I just had a cage installed. It has a "A" pillar bar, a bar across the top of the windshield, a simple angled door brace, "B" pillar bar and horizontals with a diagonal, and bracing back to the rear shock tower areas. The only thing I didn't do was the knee bar. Cost was about $2500.
