Door window sealing strip
#1

I am about to change door window outer sealing strips on my coupe as current are cracked. Part numbers of these are 477.837.469.A and 477.837.470.A. These are rubber strips with suede like material on the inner side (where door window moves up and down) and metal strip inside the rubber. I wonder how do I get the old ones off and put the new on. The old ones would not budge when I tried to push/lift them. Are they glued to the door frame? Should I just force them off using brute force or some kind of a scraper? Assuming that's the method for the removal then I guess the new ones also need to be glued. The other potential challenge I foresee is how to connect the lower horizontal outer strip with the vertical one (window guide?). Currently there is sort of triangle/arrow shaped plastic(?) piece joining these two strips together at the lower front corner of the door window. I, however, could not find anything like that in the Porsche PET. Has anybody had to deal with replacing these rubbers? The closest thing I found searching was Cosimo's message about replacing door rubber seals which is a different story. Any advice would be appreciated.

I assume you only want to replace the lower rubber strip, then what you call the outer strip stays connected to the car so no worry about the triangular part. The rubber does not need to be glued in place because it is a press fit in the outer strip and there are a few clips down inside the window channel where the lower edge of the rubber strip fits in. You should be able to pull them out starting from the end (above outer door handle), However due to dust and possible some rusted clips it may take some effort so be careful not to damage anythng. I am not sure anymore if I remove the inner door panel for better view /access but don't think so.

Thanks, Jaap. Yes, that's the lower rubber strip. However, it is the outer strip, not inner, i.e., it is on the outside of the door with suede part going inside the door frame. The triangle/arrow shaped part is on top of the forward facing end of the strip and it looks like it is glued on top...

I understood you want to replace the outer strip but I think only the rubber part and not the metal? frame which you also see on the outside? The rubber fits into this metal frame and the metal frame has the triangle/arrow part in the front corner. So if you want to remove the rubber do not pull on the metal frame but push/pull on the rubber itself. With the window in its lowest position you can probably see where the lower edge of the rubber strip sits in the clips. I think with your fingers inside the door (with the window down) and you thumbs on top of the rubber you will be able to pull /wiggle the rubber up starting at the end. (wish I had taken some picture). If you are repalcing the actual metal strip I have no clue <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Thanks, Jaap. I got you. Yes, I'm talking about the rubber strip only, not messing with any metal body parts. I could not see any clips when looking inside the gap where window goes in. I should have used a flashlight me thinksSmile. I'll try to locate the clips inside the door and pull the outer strip off if you say it is not glued and just held in place by the clips. Thanks again.

If you can come down to Detail Day on Saturday, we can guinea pig/butcher the parts car to see "how things work".
