Door speakers that fit?
#1

I've been through this before, but I was wondering if anyone has installed nice speakers that fit the 2 spaces in the lower part of the door. I could use a name and model number. I'm not happy with my purchase, and they are actuall a liitle bi and press against the metal screen. They are driven by a new Alpine with the iPod adapter

For the larger speaker, just about any 5.25" unit will work. You might have to do some surgery on the housing, or re-drill the holes to fine tune the fit.

What drivers do you have now?

This is somewhat of a "Holy Grail" quest, I am not sure anyone has found anything reasonable that fits that smaller speaker location, aside from a factory replacement. Most folks I have visited with on the subject usually just go with one replacement speaker and forego the smaller one.

I'll second the request, anyone have any model numbers fr a set of speakers that work?

again, the infinity reference fits the larger spot - i don't have mids - the tweeters stay - works very well - a 5 band parametric equalizer in your deck is the key to this car sounding good (graphic won't do it - neither will bass and treble controls alone) - the stock speakers actually aren't bad - they just need the help of the parametric eq

You're not kidding about the holy grail quest. I did like having the smaller tweets/mids (depending who you're talking to), but not necessary. I will keep searching. I relly need to prove size spec, and let the retailer tell me what's available. Crutchfield doesn't even have the 968 listed. Thanks.

btw, this is mguthrie from 968net. Good to see familiar faces. Thanks, Eric.

Hey flash. I haven't asked about those yet. First time around I got some nice Rockford fosgates, and they didn't fit. My bad for not having accurate measurements before ordering. I've saved those for another vehicle. I was looking into blaupunckt, but kept running into walls with suppliers at the time (this was a while back), so I purchased some nice 5.25" coaxials, knowing I would move those to yet another vehicle, so now I'm looking for the holy grail. I still need to work out some install bugs, and than I'll have magic! I'll look into those when I have some free time. Thanks for the input. Anyone else, please chip in. Does anyone have the exact fiting specifications handy?

I am also in the process of installing speakers in my doors.I had the factory 10 speaker system with cd changer and the only thing left to do was door speaker upgrade. This all started with a bad amp for the front channel when I purchased the car at $200 time to change.I have installed a panasonic head unit, alpine amp,and infinity kappa three ways for rear speakers.I have a set of Boston pro series that have been in two cars already. These speakers are very well made and wanted to use them but thought they would not fit.I have heard good things about MB quart so I emailed them for info on what products they had that would fit.I did not get the answers I wanted so I have decided to install the Bostons.I first pulled door panel and got out the dremal tool some cutting, drilling and fitting and one side is done. The other side I will do today.I have did alot of upgrades over the years and have never found the easy button. The factory speakers were ok but nowhere as clean as the bostons. You would think I would be done after this No now I am thinking of differant head unit.Good luck great sound and great cars always go together. i sure wish there was something better we could do in the rear of the cabs - the yamahas i have now are ok, but i had to add a sub to get any bottom end - the chamber is open and that screws us - a little tweaking with some caps and the parametric, and i got there just fine, but it sure wasn't as straightforward as in the hardtop

I haven't actually heard these , but I remember reading about them on 968.net - Focal Slim 130 - 5.25 just a little thinner - I don't know if their the holly grail IIRC they are a direct fit no clearance problems.

Josho -

Are you in the Sacramento area? I see this is your first post here, so welcome to the list!

I'll second your advice to inquire with Car Audio Innovation. Ask for Rod at

916-780-9450 or 1-800-892-6430

If anyone knows the answer, it will be him. No affiliation, just a satisfied customer. He installed my keyless entry that also works the hatch release on my coupe.

Good luck!

Hey Buzz,

I am local in the Sac area, I had purchased a Nakamichi MB-75 for another vehicle from CAI(Car Audio Innovations). Since I have the 968 now I am going to have them install an alarm, what type of alarm system and how was the price? I think for speakers I will go with Focal from CAI or MB Quartz, not sure yet need some other parts first.

I also had an MB-75 in my cab, but it didn't like the rough ride. It's a fragil unit, and I have to get it fixed a second time. FYI - this unit sounds superb, but BUYER BEWARE. If you don'r purchasee it through one of the few truly authorized dealers, they do not provide any guarantee or warranty. You would think that is someone is allowed t sell it, they would be authorized. Go figure. I saved close to $200 on the unit, but have paid them more than that back for service and time involved.

I have been looking at different cd players and researching on line.I have a panisonic now and do not like the look or most important the sound quality.I have heard the nakamichi mentioned and was considering the CD400.I have also heard good things about eclipse and clarion pro units. In the past I have always purchased Pioneer and had good results. The graphic screens I can live with out that is why I like the nakamichi.I am open to anybodys thoughts on these products. i don't know those particular models, but, as an audio engineer, i can tell you that the single most important feature you can have in any deck is a 5 band parametric equalizer - a graphic ew, or just bass/treble controls will not do - particularly in these cars, the ability to tune the environment and its specific anomolies is critical to getting a good sound

I just purchased the Infinity Kappa series 5 1/4" for the doors, and 4X6s for the rear. I'll let everyone know how the install goes. (If its easy, plug and play, etc)

One question: I'm told they 5 1/4" speakers come with "two high-quality, voice-matched outboard crossovers that send clean, pure signal to the drivers." Do I somehow use these to hook up the tweeters that are stock in the 968? (I'd heard the old 5 1/4 Nokias have an 'integrated' crossover. So basically my question is, should I still use the tweeters, and are these crossovers that come with the Kappas what I use to hook them up?

Thanks!

Mark

So the rear speakers in our cars ARE 4x6 speakers? If so I can reuse my rears from my 993....I really wish my Focal 6.5" would fit in the damn fronts since I spent a mint on them...

Anyone have an easy way to get those door grills off to see what is in there?

all you need to do is remove about 5-10 screws and the bottom door trim just comes right off.

shouldn't take 5 minutes.

now the tweeter on the other hand.... i haven't tried that one yet!
