door panel question
#1

Hello, can some one who has removed a door panel tell me if the seal that runs along the top of the panel is a separate part or is this rubber seal permenatly connected to the panel. I have looked at my parts book, called my Porsche dealer and no one seems to know. However there is not a part number listed to buy a new seal. Thanks guys any help appreciated. Also has any one ever tryed to have the top part of the panel replaced. Just the vinyl piece that runs along the very top of the panel it appears to be molded to the panel. One guy said he can replace the vinyl with new for me, he would remove the sewn part of the carpet or padded part then remove and recover vinyl and then re-sew the padded part back. Does this sound right?

I have my panels removed at home and the top rubber seal part is connected to the rest of the panel. I don't know how hard it is attached but I could check later today.

The seal is attached to the door trim panel but slips off and on easily. But your right, I can't see a part number for it in PET.

On your second point, I had the a panel in which the top section of vinyl was damaged. I could not find a way of recovering the whole section as its joined to the rest of the panel and can't really be separated and covered. Depending in the damage you may be able to filled and repaired but it won't be seamless but could be quite good. In the end I found a second hand panel afeter much searching.

I believe the part is 477-837-471A-M100 "Inner Window Slot Seal"
It's the same part on both doors.
I found the info on the Pelican Parts web site by searching "window seal".
If I were you, and I needed a replacement, I would call Sunset to confirm the part number and probably get the best price possible. Pelican's price is $44.50 for each seal.

It does just slip off the door panel.

I removed my door panel, pulled off the seal, and refurbed the top of the panel with a filler, grain copier, and dye spray I got from "Leather World Technologies" (do a google search). After having them color match the dye to a sample I sent them, the result was really good. If you are coming to Hershey, you can take a look.

Recovering the top of the door panel sounds like it might work even better if you can get the right vinyl sheeting.
Sounds like a good plan to me.

thanks so much for the help guys, this really is a great site.

Jamie '92 , YES we will be at Hershey-wouldn't miss it- and that would be great if I could see what u have done with the top of your door panel. I will check with Sunset as I have used them many times and they r very good. In reference to the vinyl sheeting the guy just showed me some vinyl but I think a match would work better from Porsche. I am not to kean on this guy I spoke to as he has never worked on Porsche he does do American made cars. I am going to wait to after Hershey to do any thing. See u in a few weeks, enjoy the ride.
