Question: Threaded Hole in Intake Manifold / Head
#1

[this is a cross-post with rennlist because I would like to diagnose this issue ASAP]

As I was checking my oil yesterday I noticed a hole below the intake manifold, between the 2nd and 3rd cylinders, and there is fresh oil around it and the hole itself is threaded, which tells me there should be something there... I ran the engine and worked the throttle and no noises or oil were detected.

Is there in fact something that is supposed to go here? I tried to search, and read something about a sensor, but I wanted to ask the great online community before I took it to the mechanic ($$$). Although he just did my cam tensioners so I wonder if he forgot to replace something, even though it looks like he should not have removed this part of the engine to do that job.

Apologies, my photobucket has been giving me trouble and I don't know how to attach images on this forum. Here is a quick shot of what I am talking about...

Well, photobucket is being difficult, not showing my edits, arrows, etc... also can't figure out how to edit a post on this forum, sorry for all of the confusion.

The threaded hole / relief is in between the 2nd and 3rd cylinder intake ports in this photo (not mine), with oil around the right side of it, running towards the 3rd cylinder intake port.

Looks like the oil temperature port to me. The DME use oil temp as an input to some mysterious function. The sensor is a VDO 130C device.

OOPS! Loks like I need new glasses! The above is hereby retracted.

I just checked and I have the same threaded hole. Seems to serve no purpose. Nothing missing from my engine. If anyone has anything attached I would like to know as well.
