Door Open Chime Problem
#1

The "chime" on my 92 Cab that notifies you that your door is open (among other things, I suppose) is now going off constantly.

It started last night with a little ding now and then, now it runs constantly.

Cabin light is not on, trunk is not open. Anyone have a suggestion as to where to begin troubleshooting?

Thanks,

Matt

You can pull the chime itself -- it's a relay found under the dash on the drivers side (on left wall above the hood release pull lever) -- the relay has concentric holes on top of it (speaker grill for the Chime speaker inside the relay).

Dont know if car will run without it plugged in, or not -- but maybe try pulling it, cleaning, and reinserting

My guess would be the pic switch on the door jamb. While the switch does control both the chime AND the dome light, if I recall, my Coupe exhibited a similar symptom a while back and I don't think the light was on, just the stupid dinging. Open the door and operate it with your finger and see if that can at least point you in the right direction as far as troubleshooting goes. If not, it will at least eliminate the switch as the culprit.

I would like to know what else the chime warns us about. I know it goes off when the doors are open, but does it also do other things? That would help me figure out where to start looking if the door switches are not the issue.

I might be mad but did I read somewhere that it can warn if your catalytic converter goes bad?!?!

I have a 92 cab and the door chime has never worked. The interior light works with the door and the trunk open. I don't even know if the chime is present in my car, or has been removed? If it was removed... everything still functions fine... without the chime.

So, the problem was the little pad on the door that hits the switch had.... worn out.

That's it. Took a while to figure it out because the problem was so intermittent, but once I had cleaned and bench checked the switch, it worked when I triggered it by hand, but not when the door was opened and closed.

Some double sided tape and a small piece of carefully placed rubber solved the problem.

Thanks for the input!
