CABRIO, key will not open trunk
#1

I read the other topic on trunk opening problems but mine seems to a bit different. The kick panel button opens the trunk fine but the key in the lock will not open it. Key turns, lock in great condition, just no clicks. Is there a relay connected to the locking mechanism that I'm just not finding? Thank you

I had that same problem, so I'd like to know the answer as well.

I had the same problem. The key turns a cam that closes a reed switch. Over time it appears the switch metal fatigues or just loses its shape so that the cam does not result in the switch closing. It is very clear if you take the lock out. The fix is to bend the arm of the reed switch that is displaced by the cam. This can actually be done with the lock in place with some needle nose pliers. Getting the lock in and out was a pain.

If the kick panel button is working, the relay is good.

This may help. The cabrio trunk switch from inside the trunk. A bit fuzzy, but the best I could do standing on my head...

I figured out the problem with mine -- technique. Evidently it likes to be opened gently, turn the key slowly 1/4 turn, wait.. relay goes and trunk pops. But if I turn it quick, nothing happens.
