Karl,

through the Australian distributor I dealt directly with a guy in their German tech dept. At the time that I ordered my KW's they didn't have what they call their 'Racing top mounts' but through the course of ordering and making enquiries, they became available so I'm not sure what arrangement your guy has but ask him if he know's Michael Grassl of the head office. In fact you could email him yourself at:

Michael.Grassl@kwautomotive.de; tell him you've been in correspondence with me in Sydney, Australia and see what he says. I went to one of our best tracks the other day and am now doing 5 seconds better around there than I was on the mo30's. With better brake pads as well but the suspension is excellent.
Great info, many thanks. And congrats on the 5-sec improvement. That's huge.

Karl.

Great photos of the KW's installed! One question... am I seeing the "helper" springs installed at the top of the front Strut? Or am I not seeing what I think I see in your photos?

Reason I ask is that I have a friend running a similar setup on his 951, and he has the "helper" springs (short thin coils) at the bottom, separated by a Racers Edge "slider" between them and the Main Springs...and I have no idea which is correct!!! But I would like to get it right the first time! Thanks again for the super photos!

Thanks guys. I can't speak more highly of the KW's and all the rest of the components in concert. Dave, I will try and find a photo of the angle you're after. What's this about? The car is in pieces after throwing my #2 bearing the same day that I did the 5 sec improvement (yes I was trying really hard) so if I don't have that particular angle you'll have to wait until next week when the workshop is open back from our Summer holidays here. Watching the poor Poms get a spanking in the Cricket. Sorry Dave.

The suspension will be under a lot more stress next season due to some upgrades to the car...

Pazzer, I got some stuff through Karl at RacersEdge and due to the imminent arrival of the KW's and knowing that I was going to re-index the t-bars lower and also run a lower front ride height, I became concerned with the stock A-arms and hubs. So upon reading up about the ones available I was going to get the 'Charlies' as they do look the best, but Karl convinced me that his allowed the car to be lowered but retain the normal geometry. I also installed his billet hubs for the safety aspect. I have heard of the hubs having cracks which fail under high stress like on a racetrack. Not something I was looking forward to. So mainly it was all a preventative choice but it's peace of mind too. The whole system is now very strong.

Oh and as you may have discovered or will do, you will have to get someone to re-tap your spindle in Imperial rather than metric. This proved harder than I thought.

Cheers for the heads up Pat, from what i have read off the RE site, is that the pin actually screws into the spindle about halfway, therfor the need to have the spindle drilled and tapped to accept the larger pin, does this mean you then after screwing the pin into the spindle, you then mount it into the a-arm afterwards, this in turn would provide a stronger joint, please correct me if i am wrong. regards pazzer.

Yes Pazzer that's pretty much how I see it. The pin is also larger so it offers a better structural hold on these 2 pieces, but as I said the U.S. still uses Imperial sizing so whoever re-taps it probably won't have the correct size drill. My mechanic had to get one specially ordered in to do this. Check out your options. Worst case scenario you may have to send your spindles down here to get tapped? May add an extra $100-$200 to your overall costs but still worth it. I spent money on getting my car to handle and stop and bolstered the strength of some of the stressed components, before I made it go faster. I will now make it go very fast and feel secure in it!

The spindles do need to be drilled and machined. I have them done @$175US. I will stock a set of non MO30 spindles ready to ship with A Arms with exchange. I haven't been able to come up with a set of spare MO30's to do the same yet.

BTW the pin material is some Aerospace material that is incredibly strong.

I got some initial feedback from KW North America after they returned from the holidays on Jan-02...

There is no strut mount (they call them "top mounts") for the 944/968 V3... yet. But they may come available in some number of weeks. KW NA said they'd know more at the end of January.

333pg333's setup is a 2-way race system, and they already have top mounts available for the race setups.

Yes I know how you feel about getting everything together for the next seasons racing. Last year was my first year back on the track for over 20 years approx. so I'm so keen to go again. Unfortunately my car is in bits at the mechanics waiting on a bunch of boxes to arrive from the U.S. for the engine rebuild after throwing my number 2 rod bearing a month ago after a great track day. Boy that day has become the most expensive day of my life!!! Well I was going to do some upgrades anyway so it just brought everything forward but I'm getting so itchy to get started and I miss my car lots too.

As a side note, you can get longer pins for the charlie arms too. I have a set I'm about to install.

I didn't think it was only the pins that made the difference but I could be completely wrong. I'll see if I can dig up something Karl emailed me.

Well I'm adding the KW Suspension V3 to my '93 Coupe. I research every site I could, and the KW seemed like the most modern of the bunch. I'll let you know how it works out in a couple of weeks when the parts get here. I won't be able to report on the ride and handling until Spring.

Its going to be a long winter of work, but the spring and summer should be fun!

Hey Vaino,

Where are you located? I ask as the KW's don't seem to have gained much following in the U.S. yet which is a pity as people naturally use what they have in the past. Plus I guess you want to feel like there's support for the product, but I'm guessing you're in the UK by the light in your avatar. Second thoughts, I'll go for the U.S. guessing that you've shot the photo at the drivers side which would make that L.H.D.

Anyway I guarantee that you'll love your new suspension. Let us know how it goes.

Hello! Yes, East Coast of the US. I read all the English, Swedish, German, and US forums on the options. Most people seemed to go with hiostoric options. Koni/Bilstein I've had both, prefering the Bilstein over the Koni. The engineering on these brands hasn't changed since they were introduces back in the late 70's. The new stuff (PSS9) seemed very well engineering and current, but not available for our cars. The KW had all the right engineering, despite a slighter higher cost. The ability to keep the wheels on the ground was universally gained by all. I can't ask for more from a suspension. Without traction, you can't go fast.

The car is a dual use vehicle. Summer fun, Autocross, and 6-10 days of track (DE). Hoping it work well!

Huge following here ,it just does not appear to be so with the P-Car crowd.

Look forward to how you like the V3's vaino.

Yes Maryland

and let's see on the states

New South Wales

Queensland

Tasmania

Victoria

The Territory

That's my best guess at 5 of them being an American I'd like to add New Zealand and New Guinea as Australian states instead of as sovereign nations to complete the 7.

I've been wanting to put the V3s on my wife's car for a couple of years but she is happy with the M030 sways now. So I bought a second 968 to play with and hopefully can begin working with it soon. Once I get done dealing with this #%%^ merger that has been taking up so much time and energy it will be time to get the car ready for spring.
