Coolant Cap
#1

My coolant cap fell apart when I went top up coolant. Are there non Porsche alternatives such as Audi/BMW/VW etc? I need one immediately because one of our cars got totaled and I must use the 968 in the next couple of days.

Thanks.

I have what looks like an aftermarket cap that has the annode or whatever that sacraficial metal is that helps protect your engine. I think any cap with the right pressure stats will work, but ask Pete.

I found one at Auto Zone, part # 7616. I don't know what car it's intended. The cap fits and I'll take make sure to test under heat later today.

I will ask Pete but he's very busy right now so I didn't leave a message. I'll try again when he's got some breathing space.

For now the "emergency" is taken care of and I'll look for the proper one in the next few days. I did a road test and saw no issues. The strength of the spring appears to be the same but that's hand squeeze test only. There is no indication on the part or packaging that provides any detail. Having heard the advice I'll be a bit paranoid. I'll carry the original that is in 4 parts right now in the car. It turns out I can put the parts in and the thing still works.

Thank you for the comments.
