Contemplating a spoiler for my 94 968 Cab.
#1

Members: Has anyone installed a rear spoiler on their 968 cabriolet? I have seen one that American International Racing offers but I am worried that it may not look that great. I have seen pictures of the Turbo S knock off that they sell on a 944 but I would like to see it on a 968 cab had someone installed one. Thoughts? Suggestions? Is it too sake burning?

Flash has a friend with a black 968 with a nice spoiler on it. We could not find out where it came from, but maybe you can. If you do please post the info, as I thought it looked good.

I think the Tech Art rear spoiler looks the best. From time to time they still pop up for sale. I purchased one on eBay a few months back. Attached is a picture of one installed. If I install mine I'll add some type of integrated 3rd brake light and delete the GM one.

Looks good with the techart - its hard to make a choice when I am not able to see the spoilers in person. Hate to throw 700 +/- and hate it. Thanks for the photo and advice.

i've wrestled with this over the last 4 years - tough call, and very subjective

on the upside, it would make lifting and closing the boot lid easier - it would disrupt the air at the rear of the car, helping cope with lift at very high speed

however, it would give it a very 80s look, that just bugs me - once i got rid of the 3rd brake light, and lowered the car and added the really wide wheels, the back end of the car really took on a great look, and really looked a lot wider - it is unspoiled by any interruptions (pardon the pun, but it is appropriate)

it would also result in a big argument with my better half - she absolutely hates the stuck-on spoiler look of the 80s cars, and this would put it, and me, smack in the middle of that

Flash: Would you say that you prefer the Turbo S spoiler over the TechArt? It's a tough choice and will probably cost me close to 1K making the wrong decision. Just looking for feedback before taking the dive in the spoiler pool.

turbo s spoiler is for the hatch of a coupe and would take extensive modification to get it to fit on the back of a cab. i'd stay away from american international racing with my porsche, they may do well with chevy cavaliers and s10s, but would probably look tacky on a porsche.

The techart spoiler pops up on ebay frequently, for somewhere around $300 NIB.

I think there maybe 1 listed now.

I was thinking a 3rd brake light LED bar could be grafted into the TechArt spoler, that might give it a little updated look.

might be pretty tough to graft it into the tech art - it's polyurethane as i remember

I got one of the TechArts in the original box I haven't done anything with yet. It's has to be poly, it's not fiberglass. I can't quite tell if it's hollow or not, a knock test didn't give me the answer I was looking for. It seems like it could be done though.

I have seen American Inter Racings version of the Turbo S spoiler and they now offer a Turbo S for the Cabrio. There were pics of one on a red 944 Cab on their website but its no longer there to see. I have spoken with John Brewer and he guarantees that the spoiler will be eactly the same and will not warp over time. I have had many people tell me to stay away from buying his products -- which leads me to ask has anyone bought or had a bad experience with him? If I do decide to buy his product and its not as promised and to original specs as promised -- it will be my honor to call Amex and decline the sale and send back his spoiler.

i have full confidence in the AIR products, however, they are fiberglass - i have been to their facility, seen their stuff, talked to their people - i have a modified one of their units on the front of my car now - the fit and finish is exactly what you would expect of fiberglass - inconsistent and not the same quality as sheet metal or polyurethane - it took a long time to get it looking right

that being said, they are pretty good about returns, as long as the unit is not damaged or modified

as for hat i think about the turbo spoiler on a cab - eewwwww

Wow, my bad, I was thinking of the wrong place. I completely retract my statement about AIR. I have seen some nice stuff from them, but don't have any experience myself. I feel like a grade A jackass.

Eric Sandoval's 968S had a TechArt spoiler and I thought it looked great.

I think that this is the one I am going with gents as it's a safe bet. Everything else seems too risky. I want to thank everyone for their input and photos. So, now all I have to do is find one!
