Carbon Fiber TS Spoiler
#1

There has been some controversy over the CF pieces on my car. A few People have said that they are not 100% CF, but rather CF overlay on top of Fiberglass. Mainly a couple of characters over at RL who will try to shun anything of mine.
This is not true. These parts are 100% carbon fiber. No Fiberglass. I purchased these from American International Racing (AIR). They typically make these pieces out of fiberglass, but will make them out of carbon fiber if you request it.
Leaving them exposed is not somehing i would recommend for a show car. The seams where the CF is attached is very bad quaity. These parts are designed for race cars, not show cars. I had the sides of my rear spoiler color coded ala Mitsubishi Evo. The adjustable bridge and front splitter were left exposed. I had to do some blending (which you could see in the pictures) and have both parts clear coated and wet sanded for them to look decent.
I went through 3 fiberglass front splitters (all from AIR) before i decided to go with a CF unit. The CF splitter costs $100 more then the fiberglass unit, but is much more durable. It has outlasted all my fiberglass units combined.
Here are a few pictures of the parts and the car.

Your wing really sets your car apart. First thing I notice wen ever I see a pic of your ride. I have mixed feeling about the splitter.

Thank you on the wing. As for the splitter, its not for everybody. Especially when left exposed. The dark exterior color & anthracite wheels go well with the CF in my subjective opinion. The OEM spliiter & Flash's spliiter look nice and integrated, the AIR splitter as you can see from the pics extends about an inch past the bumpers.

Hi Fox.

I like the splitter and I browsed the AIR site but couldn't find it. Does it have a part number or was it one off? How much did you pay for it? I'd like to order one too so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thx,

Magnus

Dibs on that one if you're able and willing to assist (as long as it is not way over my budget that is). Is it fiber glass or carbon fiber?

Thanks,

Magnus

not sure - i'll go down and look in a few minutes - he left it here a few weeks ago - we were literally going to install it today, just because it's here and why not, but i think maybe he will go without it and wait for a different one - not sure - i'll be talking to him in a few minutes

Firefish,

a Fiberglass Splitter costs $200, CF costs $300. Either one would have to get primered/painted/clear coated.

Fox,

I saw that pic earlier but it doesn't look like the one on your car. I kinda like the way it sticks out on the sides on yours and the one in the AIR website sits more flush if you know what I mean.

Thx,

Magnus

Magnus,

The pictures on their websight are of an OEM Turbo S front Splitter. The actual splitter they sell looks like mine. It is a replica of the OEM unit, but wider...made to fit flush with the fender flares they sell.

If i get around to it, i'll post a picture of the fiberglass splitter i had prior to the CF splitter. It looks the same. The fiberglass splitter's i had were all color coded, but they were the same width as the CF unit.

The picture to use to advertise the Turbo S rear spoiler is also a picture of the facatory unit. The brackets for the OEM spoiler are black vs silver for the AIR pieces.

Magnus,

I am not sure what the import duty is from the US to Sweden, but I pay quite a premium to import from the US. You can also get wings and splitters from a supplier here in the Netherlands (I am assuming import duties will be zero?).

I do not have any of these products myself, but maybe some of the guys here on the Forum has experience with their products.

I can confirm the picture they used for the front splitter is an OEM polyurethane one - not the one they are selling. I know because they have "borrowed" a picture of my former 968. I don't know why they just don't show pictures of their actual products.

I saw some time ago that the guys on "Ranntlist" were working on a group buy for some Turbo or RS wings ... can't remember who they were working with ... if I did I am sure that I couldn't mention them in fear of being reprimanded for some kind of cross forum endorsement !

Thanks Johann. I will check them out. You wouldn't happen to have pictures of a car that runs with that splitter?

Anyway, I'll give them a call to see if they can make one of carbon fiber.

Flash, did you talk to the splitter person?

And this is how it looks like now. It is sitting on my living room table (wife's not home) and have just coated it with 600 g/m2 carbon fiber. Tomorrow I'll remove the additional material and then we'll see how it looks like. And yes I know, not carbon straight through, but that might not be all bad. Glass and carbon make a pretty good mix.
