Confirm Wheel Torque
#1

Okay, here is another really easy one...

I just received my new torque wrench, and am planning on taking the wheels off for some spring cleaning. I searched the forum and it seems like 96 ft/lb is the right setting when I re-mount the wheels. I would appreciate it if someone could confirm that for me.

yes, but............

aluminum lug nuts are good for about 25 on and offs - after that they start losing the ability to achieve and retain torque - many shops will only torque aluminum nuts to 85 - you should replace them if they have been on and off that many times

also, use a touch of anti-seize on them

Thanks for the additional info. I am pretty sure these are the original lug nuts. It's probably safe to say that they have been on and off 25 times over the 15 year life of the car. I just bought one set from Paragon to replace the one anti-theft nut on each wheel (and one extra), I guess I could buy three more sets if necessary but they weren't as inexpensive as I thought they would be. Oh well, one more thing...

Do they look the same ? What is the downside other than slight additional weight ?
