Extension for stock steering wheel?
#1

Is there such a thing? I think I have seen something for the older (pre-airbag) 944, but I am not sure if this works for our stock steering wheels as well.

I would like to move my steering wheel about an inch closer to me w/o moving the seat - I have long legs, and in addition my helmet starts touch the ceiling/sunroof if I slide the seat forward any more.

Has anybody done this before? Is there a custom solution out there that would as well?

oof - that's going to be tough. i've gone the other way, and moved it away from me, but never closer. not sure i'd do that with an airbag wheel anyway.

the problem you'll have is that the shaft is only so long, and you need all of the threads on the nut to hold it. there is a possibility of counter-boring the front side of the hub, and putting a spacer on the back, but i don't think you'll get anywhere near an inch. you might get 1/4". you could probably pick up another 1/16" at the u-joint coupler by loosening the bolts, pulling on the shaft, and then tightening them back up.

probably better off with a different wheel, and one that you can fiddle with.

Thanks for the reply flash, even though what you say is not very encouraging. 1/4" would definitely not be enough.

The factory extension hub I had in mind is this piece (below). I can see it with with the non-Airbag wheel, but I am not sure is it would work our our stock wheel. Does anyone know if the connecting mechanism/shaft is the same?
