Good luck with the recovery, I hope for you sake they went through wrist and not the groin it is a much easier recovery. They would not let me stay awake during my procedure 2 years ago, whenever I asked them a question they knocked me back out.

Ouch, I left the hospital the next day with a band aid on the wrist. It took 3 tries I think for me and it went from a 45 minute procedure to 3 hours.
Which blood thinner do they have you on, me cardio put me on an expensive one called Brilinta (I think) but it was worth the expense since I was able to discontinue it after a year. Apparently the commonly used ones you are on for the rest of your life and while it was not covered by insurance like everything else to not easily bruise or bleed after a year is great.

Sorry, work got super hectic real fast and I was away from personal time for about a week.
So much happening in this thread, I was amazed. First of all, best wishes to Waylander and hope you get better soon.
As for the lifters, it sounds like the consensus is that's my problem, and my options are either a) change the oil and run some Ristone/cleaner through, b) dismantle and clean the lifters, or c) replace the lifters.
Bulti what is the period for changing the pads / chain? My car hasn't been driven a lot, mostly just sat around for the last 5 years, still only has 100k km.

The cleaner will also clean the rest of the engine. I am no fan of it for an old engine that is almost 25 years full of dirt. If it goes wrong you will gave more work to do with new gaskets and getting ou all the dirt that came loose.

Not sure, but if there is a specified interval, it should be written down here somewhere. If you ask me it's adviceable to inspect the upper pad each time you have the valve cover off. Be adviced though: the upper pad is easy to inspect, the lower one's not at all but it wears down at a faster rate than the other one.
You should consider having a peek, it's quite easy (be careful with the valve cover bolts though - they can snap), so you can inspect the pads, especially when you are not certain if and when the job has been done. Again, whole books have been written here on the subject.
My car had about 130 000 km and about 21 years before I changed them, they were still the original chain and pads. My pads where still quite ok, but the plastic was definitely brittle.

Waylander is a treasure. Hope you're still well dude, and I had no idea you were not well a few years back. So, 1991-1994 Audi 100 w/ the 2.8 6-cyl lifters will do the job? I'm so freaking close to working out all the gremlins on my coupe. One code continues to rear its ugly head, Knock Sensor #1. It's intermittent, but persistent. It's not going away. I hear the clicking from time to time too, right under the valve cover. Changed the sensor to no avail. I think we have a lifter problem. Recommend just changing all of them?

I have to say that a ticking lifter would not trigger a knock sensor, if it’s been changed was a replacement bolt used, they are specially coated bolts
If it continues to cause a knock I would be very tempted to have the injectors cleaned and the FPR checked and a smoke test for an air leak, the knock sensors must be fitted exactly as described in the manual.
If the ECL comes on the ignition timing is retarded by the ECU by 6 degrees
Don’t even consider new injectors they are now $500 each
I will find the INA part number for the VW ones, we can get a set of 16 lifters here for $75

Thanks Waylander, I thought fuel injectors also might be a problem. Oh by the way, since I've had the seals replaced, timing/balance shaft belts done. No more clicking. At least not in the last 48 hours. That's a short period of time overall. Thanks again for the advice, as always.
