I did well on Insurance for the 968
#1

I have USAA for my insurance company since my dad was in the military. Great rates. I also drive like a grandma (getting passed by Minivans) so i haven't had a ticket since 1994. When I purchased the mint car I noticed how far the values of 968s have dropped since I purchased my first 968 in 1996. The blue book value on my 92 cab is like $12K and I just paid $18K for it. I wasn't happy about that so i called USAA. I pay them about $600 a year for the 968 which is a third vehicle and I put it into a storage status from December to April which saves me money. No restrictions on driving, even my 18 year old daugther could drive the car if i let her. USAA said that if I wanted to go with stated value then I would have to go with American Collectors, their affiliate . I called them and they quoted me $381 a year with a stated value of $20K and no deductibles. I can't drive the car to work (I wasn't doing that anyway) and only my wife and i can drive the car. It has to be stored but overall, it was a very reasonable deal so i switched. Keep an eye on that current value of our 968s. i hope I never have to use it but at least I would get what the car is worth.

i'd love to find rates like that, but as soon as you get up to the half million mark, it gets pretty dicey - haven't found anybody yet who will cover the car for stated value AND provide at least a half million of liability coverage, which is where the umbrella takes over - i gave up on the stated value, figuring the car was disposable by comparison to the house

as it is though, i think the porsche only costs me about 750 a year - lol - the denali actually costs me the most

Our cars are really worth less then 10K. a 92 cab books for $6,600. What people are willing to pay for them due to rarity & condition is a different story.

interesting - i did a quick plug in on a 94 with 45k on it and it came up a bit over 23k

a 92 cab with 60k on it, and no frills came up at 18.6k

even trade-in value in fair condition the 92 was over 11k

no idea where the 6.6k comes from - must be a bazillion miles?

He maybe referring to dealer wholesale. I recently checked a couple sites and found mid to upper teens.

6.6K for a '92 968 Cab. That value comes from people sometimes refer to as the Black Book (or the Cars REAL value. All Dealers, Wholesalers, & Auctions use a book called Galves.

KBB are inflated prices anyway you cut the cake. I have Certified Pre-Owned Cars (with less miles then what galves or KBB claim the car should have) priced thousands less then what KBB suggests i should be selling them at (not including Certification)

Nada.Com lists prices that are closer to actual value, but even they are high.

My 968 Coupe books for little more then a '95 M3 Coupe books for. But '95 968's sell privately for a lot more (on average) then a '95 M3 does. What people are willing to pay for these cars and what they are actually worth are not the same. Supply/Demand allows us to sell our cars for a lot more then M3's owners can fetch for their cars...even though they are worth nearly the same as a trade-in or at an auction.

AAA (my insurance company) uses kelly, so i use kelly

it also seems to be pretty close to what i have been watching the cars sell for lately - i am in the market for another one, and the numbers have been very close on lower mileage cars

condition and mileage is the key to the accuracy

I went to KBB site last week and it told me a 92 cab with my options (although they didn't recognize blinding mint colored paint as a feature <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ), 41K, and in excellent condition is worth $13K.

that was probably trade in value (wholesale) and not retail value - we should be looking at retail values or at least private sales values

the numbers i quoted above were 2 minutes old, and from my zip code

It may be semantics, but your posts make zero sense to me. What something is worth ("value") IS what people are willing to pay for something ... condition, scarcity, location, etc. all factor in to what something is worth. How does an appraiser value houses, cars, anything ... by looking at what people have paid for similar items. Saying that people are (regularly) willing to pay more than something is worth is contradictory.

lol - this was a huge discussion a couple of years ago - there was the common misconception that "worth" and "market value" were synonymous

my car is "worth" 75k to me, and under certain circumstances, in the event of a loss, would be what i am paid for it

the market value is considerably less

I just used Parish Heacock for the 968 street car I bought and because I already had a car on my policy my anual premium is $181.00 a year, liability, F&T, collision, can only drive 3K miles per year, no driver under 25, must be stored in garage at night, all restictive I know but fits my use.

Rich

Also policy was based on agreed value which in this case is $20K if a total loss.
