Caster Block Install-HELP

I know I read a thread on various tricks to install Caster Blocks but I'll be damned if I can find it. I've been over all the areas twice. Can someone help a brother out and point me the way??

no trick - 2 bolts - one center pinning - pretty simple - alignment required though - ring me up - happy to help - in the shop all day tomorrow tinkering on the 968

I thought I read somewhere that if you marked the existing caster block edges with spray paint, then lined up the new ones , you could forego the alignment. Yes/No???

Ryan,

This will keep your alignment "close". Still would best to get it realigned. Your old castor blocks could have had some wear when the last alignment was performed.

10-4. I'm going to start making some chassis improvements. I talked to Pete at RSBarn and he recommended starting with the strut brace and M030 bars, then the lower brace, but be sure the caster blocks are in great shape. The last time I looked under there I think they are the original design. So I either replace with the updated block for $83 from Paragon or go the route of the Racers Edge for $372. Either way, I,m thinking they are going to need replaced and I might as well just get that behind me.

Man, when I left Ohio, I gave away all my stuff. I used to restore 68-72 442's. Don't even have a pair of jack stands. Did buy some Racer Ramps, but I'm going to need some stands to get the weight off the suspension I would assume to get some of this work done. I'll be in touch for advice for sure as I progress thru this.

no, the spray paint method will not get you close enough to avoid an alignment - the old block would have compressed rubber - the new one will locate the control arm in the center of the rubber - castor adjustments are made in very small amounts - a few thousandths of an inch makes a difference



it will get you close enough to drive to the local alignment shop, but very likely the car will pull



take a look at the elephant racing castor blocks - that's what i'm running, and i love them - also less expensive than the racer's edge

Moved 8 times in 7 years...................and was pretty much done restoring cars. Haven't been under a car in 7 years. This car, a few autocrosses and you guys have got me juiced again. My wife just shakes her head...............LOL.

OK guys, just got home and looked under there and sure enough, they are the old style Caster Block and rubber feels none too good although there does not appear to be any cracks. But running 18" wheels and doing autocross, not a good combo huh?? I checked out the Elephant Racing blocks Flash suggested and looks like a good unit. Ya think I ought to replace the sway bars and blocks all at the same time, then the alignment??
