Noise from balance shaft/timing belts

Need some help, I just replaced the balance shaft and timeing belts and new rollers. Now I have a whirring noise. From all I read this is quite common after belt replacement.? I opened it up again and too me the Bal shaft belt was quite loose, retensioned it a bit, but not tight, still have the noise. Some say it goes away after awhile? any thoughts on this.

when correct, it is uncommonly loose - the first instinct is to tighten it up - don't



set it at the new spec (the 2.7 spec is no longer valid) and then recheck it after about 2000 miles - then again after 10000, and every 10000 or so thereafter to be safe, especialy if you drive the car hard



the noise, when tension is set correctly, does go away after a while - it takes a few hundred miles though

Thanks Flash, as suggested I'll leave it alone for a few hundred miles... see if it quites down.

just so it isn't too tight - that would cause premature stretching - did you use the gauge to check it?

No gauge available, just a gentle snug fit. Can you recommend anything other then the factory tool which is very expensive. I have put many belts on, this one may be different.?

One technique I have used several times is the twist method. If you grab the belt along its longest span and twist it just a little past 90 degrees with finger pressure, then the tension is about right. With this method you set the belt probably a fuzz tighter than spec. You get some whine when the engine is cold, but it goes quiet after about two minutes and things warm up.
