Front S/S BrakeLine Routing
#1

Hi,

I'm attempting to install a set of s/s brakelines from Paragon and they appear to be too long.

Held side by side, the new line is approx. 1" longer[?] Has anyone else had this issue? When the hub is turned lock-to-lock the line hangs on the a-arm when retracted{?}. I did route the line through the factory eyelet on the strut so it makes a quick 90 from the caliper. And, I'm using the factory chaf-guard which helps. I hope I don't have to fab a bracket.

Does anyone have a pic of their front install or perhaps have a suggestion...?

Thx

i installed the same parts from paragon. i don't remember it being a problem. but maybe you're just doing a more thorough job than i did!

i seem to recall using a zip tie or two to hold them in place since i couldn't get my original rubber grommet things to work with the new ss lines.

good luck!

Bob, you've got mail...

I noticed the placement of your jackstand. I assume you haven't had any issues with your floor pan?

nope - in that shot, it's right under the castor block - i didn't have to get under the car, and it was stable, so i was comfortable - i don't use those stands if i have to get under the car

Did you order the set with hard lines or w/o hard lines? My M030 car has the hard lines up front. This is a mod I was considering and I assumed that the hard line sets would be shorter and connect to the hard line vs. connecting directly to the caliper.

Thanks,

mike

Hey Flash, what kind of Konis are those? I thought the only thing you can get for 968s are either inserts or threaded coilovers ... yours look like a Koni strut??

@Mike

The MO30 lines have female fittings at both ends, so no, I don't have those.

I'm guessing the line length has to do with where or who the line set is bought from. The set from Paragon seem to be the longest so far... Both the back & front lines where an inch too long. Fortunately they said I can return them, but now I'm w/o brakes...

Update:

I spoke to a rep. at Crown Performance [supplier to Paragon] and he mentioned the dims. [17" frt. & 8" rr w/o fittings], where provied by Paragon. Both the front & rear pairs where too long.

He said the lines where updated in the last year, so if you have an old set they may not be correct. Also, the max bend radius for this size line is 2.0", [so tight bends are not recomended].

Unfortunately, Crown isn't familiar with P-cars so they have no specs to reference for the correct length. Their speciality is B-lines for O/R trucks.

Fortunately they offered to custom fab me a set if I returned the first set, {sweet}. What I ended up doing is shipping back the rear pair and re-routing the front lines. And, I sent Crown the correct length dimensions for the our cars. I knew I'd find a use for all my left over aircraft hardware...

The downside is my car will be down for a week...

You'd think for an 11yo car, this wouldn't be an issue...!

Thanks for everyones input...

Funny, I just put the Paragon units on when I rebuilt and upgraded to M030 front calipers. Mine seem to fit okay, certainly not on the short side. I ran them through the existing holders on the strut (for better or worse, kinda rattle around in there), but they do seem to move about okay throughout the steering range.

I will have to go back out and take a look again this weekend.

I didn't look closely enough then. It appeared at first glance that they anti-abrasion coils would be impossible to remove over the fittings... Was I just too tired and impatient?

Yes, it would be difficult to pull them over the fittings. I just unwound them off the old lines and wound them onto the new lines...
