So whenever I go over speed bumps or take corners really slow, like pulling into my parking space, I get some pops and creaks from the right front wheel area. I keep thinking it's just the flex of the car and some loose body panels or what not. Any Cab owners have a similar issue?



My mechanic doesn't think it's anything major, just "Cab noises".

noises are really not bad in these cars - if it's ony from the one corner, i'd be looking at that - could easily be sway bar bushings - a power steering leak there will wipe that bushing out in a hurry

That's what I used to think it was. I had the power steering hoses and bushings replaced, so that eliminates that possibility.

not really - damage could have happened before you replaced them - another leak could be doing it too



beyond that, there are a number of things that can cause it to make noise, but the car does not inherantly make noise - in fact, it is one of the quieter convertables i've driven



take a good look - if they are either squishy or overly hard, or if you see any gaps at all, they are done

I don't have that issue, but if the sound is that noticeable, some common culprits may be:



-front strut (old/leaking)

-spring seat (cracked, dry)

-control arm (check for play and bolt torque)

-wheel bearing (check for play)

-or possibly CV joint/boot (check for cracks in boot).



Could be any of these, if the mechanic has already checked these and found nothing, I would guess it may be some dried out bushings that get stressed over bumps.

Don't forget ball joints. I would take it to a front end shop and have them test for play to narrow it down. Lug nuts are tight right?

My coupe used to make a noise like that and it turned out that the castor block on the right side was bad. I found it by jacking up the right front of the car. As I jacked up the car the castor block would make a popping noise as the weight of tire caused it to turn. It was pivoting in the wrong spot. If I remember right it was worse after I drove around some because the heat from the friction (metal turning against metal) caused it to bind more.

They are the rear mount for the control arm.

I discovered another power steering fluid leak, so I am guessing the bushings are shot, again.

How many years did Porsche continue to use this wonderful power steering system (all through the 944 series) I bet almost every person on this site has had leaks. Would not have happened on a Japanese car. So much for the evolution of the series!
