jim - yeah - sorry - live and learn - this was what i had in mind when i instructed the previous guy - i think he cheaped out - it was a lot of work, but i think in the end it will be worth it if they arrive undamaged

lee - glad i finally was able to make this happen - enjoy

everyone, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have ANY issues with this unit - i would rather try to resolve it BEFORE you try to modify something

just a heads up

it seems there is a slight difference in this batch - not a problem really, but something to look out for - when installing, watch the rear corners, as they can snag the side panels going in - best to set the unit in the car a few inches forward of it's resting position, and slide it back

also, by utilizing early 944 seat belt bolts in the lower and upper locations, it seems you can retain the swivel feature of the belt fastenings (thanks doug)

Hi Bob,

Just picked up my chassis brace and it came through without a scratch! The down side is that I had to go to Newark afer dark. Luckily, I made it out without a scratch, just like the brace! Hope to install it in a week or two.

Thanks for all the hard, frustrating work to pull off this project.

Hi Bob,

I did not take the message but my secretary told me I had to go to the Greyhound Terminal to pick up the brace. I am only about 20 minutes from the terminal so it was not a problem. Unfortunately, Newark is a standing joke here in Jersey and I just jumped on the band wagon. I gave you my office address and, no, it was not delivered to my office but I was not expecting it to be dropped at my office. I always thought it would be dropped shipped to the nearest terminal which it was so I did not see this as a problem.

Thanks again,

Lee

How can that be Flash, when the upper bolt part # is the same for all '82-'91 944's & '92-'95 968's? (Note: the lower bolt part # is the same as the top bolt part # for all early '82-'85 944's). Only the '85-'91 (non turbo) 944's have a different lower bolt part # from what the 968 uses, so is that what you are saying maintains the swivel action? Obviously the early (or late) 944 upper bolt can't possibly maintain the swivel action in the 968 if the 968's upper bolt doesn't already since they all use the same bolt! So what is Doug actually using, a lower bolt from the '85-'91 944 (part #914 803 468 10) in both the lower & upper positions?
ok - i am finally ready to get going on this again - a lot of things had to be worked out, so as to account for some inconsistencies from car to car, and streamline the process - vendor selection was an issue too

i have made some decisions that will affect some people, but had to be done - i have chosen not to offer 3 models as before, but rather one that is ready to accept the optional pieces

additional design changes along the way, that resulted in a LOT more time and effort, and serious rises in materials and powder coating costs have increased the price - my apologies in advance, but this is what it took to get it right - we seriously underpriced the first round

the unit is now much better though, and much easier to install than when i first started this

so, without further ado, the new pricing is as follows:

CHASSIS BRACE................................................$675

OPTIONAL HARNESS BAR......................................$85

OPTIONAL X-BRACE............................................$175

SHIPPING, PACKAGING, & HANDLING.....approx $100

delivery time is 6-8 weeks from the day we start - this price is good for 30 days from today

i will be sending emails to those who emailed me before - if you are ready to go, send me an email to flash@design1racing.com - i will respond with the information of how to make payment - i will begin accepting deposits on or about monday

this is the unit shown with the optional X-Brace and Harness Bar - the unit is still a direct bolt in, with no loss of function of the seats, complications with the top, storage boxes (with a slight modification), or the boot cover

i have not yet figured out what i am doing with the windscreen kit - it has turned out to be quite a project that is rather cost prohibitive for most people - it takes me over an hour to make each one, and costs $20 in materials alone - works great, and is actually simpler to install than stock when done, but is looking pretty pricey
Hey Flash,

You never answered my questions above. Can you please clarify which bolts are to be used to retain the swivel feature of the belt fastenings?

sorry - thought i did

NONE

to retain the swivel feature you would need a shouldered bolt i have not yet been able to find

Hey Flash,

I'm finally installing the rollbar you sold me now that I've finished cleaning out all the glue and adding Fatmat sound deadener in the floorboard & tunnel area, and I was wanting to add a windscreen to it. Since you decided that making & selling a windscreen was cost prohibitive, could you instead send me a picture of the custom one you made (that was simpler than the stock Porsche version) for fitting onto the rollbar and detail what you used for the materials so that I can make one myself?

i did not make a windscreen - i made a kit to install the porsche unit - you still need one of those screens to begin with

i am working on a DIY for that kit - been a bit crazy with the remodel and such though, and have not gotten to it

Well hurry up and make a DIY kit to install the stock Porsche unit then, because I will need it soon!!!!

Damn, now I'm going to have to buy the pricey Porsche windscreen!

What about if I just made a vertical clear lexan windscreen that attaches to the rollbar itself at the top and goes all the way down to the top front edge of the cubby section (it could also attach to the short bar that comes out of the cubby unit for the bottom mounting point)? This would eliminate the need for the horizontal section.

doesn't work - ask brian (silvy968)

besides, you need the horizontal section - that actually does as much as the vertical - without it you will not be happy with the noise

i'll try to nail down the diy when i get back from hershey
