CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - flash - 06-23-2006

ok - i am finally ready to get going on this again - a lot of things had to be worked out, so as to account for some inconsistencies from car to car, and streamline the process - vendor selection was an issue too

i have made some decisions that will affect some people, but had to be done - i have chosen not to offer 3 models as before, but rather one that is ready to accept the optional pieces

additional design changes along the way, that resulted in a LOT more time and effort, and serious rises in materials and powder coating costs have increased the price - my apologies in advance, but this is what it took to get it right - we seriously underpriced the first round

the unit is now much better though, and much easier to install than when i first started this

so, without further ado, the new pricing is as follows:

CHASSIS BRACE................................................$675

OPTIONAL HARNESS BAR......................................$85

OPTIONAL X-BRACE............................................$175

SHIPPING, PACKAGING, & HANDLING.....approx $100

delivery time is 6-8 weeks from the day we start - this price is good for 30 days from today

i will be sending emails to those who emailed me before - if you are ready to go, send me an email to flash@design1racing.com - i will respond with the information of how to make payment - i will begin accepting deposits on or about monday

this is the unit shown with the optional X-Brace and Harness Bar - the unit is still a direct bolt in, with no loss of function of the seats, complications with the top, storage boxes (with a slight modification), or the boot cover

i have not yet figured out what i am doing with the windscreen kit - it has turned out to be quite a project that is rather cost prohibitive for most people - it takes me over an hour to make each one, and costs $20 in materials alone - works great, and is actually simpler to install than stock when done, but is looking pretty pricey

Even at the new pricing, It is still worth every penny and should be standard for all cab owners.... better jump on it before it's too late....[/quote]

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - flash - 06-24-2006

that "quote" thing was confusing - i had to really look to see that you actually had a short comment at the end

but thanks for the endorsement - i am really very happy with how this came out

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - tloof - 07-03-2006

Flash,

Since I don't plan to ever race my 968 Cab, is the X-bracing and harness bar options worthwhile? (I assume the harness bar is only useful for racing where a special harness is used). As for the x-bracing, does it add addtional stiffness to the chassis that is worthwhile if not racing? (It appears that it slightly obstructs the rear deck area for carrying baggage, and possibly keeps the front seat from being reclined as far back as is possible without it?).

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - flash - 07-03-2006

i would say that neither are not necessary - while they do add a bit of extra bracing, the amount is slight, and not worth the weight gain - they are really just to pass spec for track use - there are a couple of DE events that require a diagonal brace, though almost all do not, and if you plan to run harnesses, you have to have the harness bar - check your local rules

the x-brace does get in the way of the baggage area, and preclude use of hte windscreen, though i have had no issues with the seat - the harness bar, though does limit the recline, but no interference with the windscreen

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - Fox944 - 07-03-2006

Bob, how much do the chassis brace, harness bar & X-brace weigh? depending on how stiff my car is once the suspension is fully complete, i may be interested in pulling my rear seats and adding this brace to my coupe.

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - flash - 07-04-2006

sorry - it won't work at all in a hatchback - can't even get it in there, and the upper mounting points are different anyway

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - flwbyu - 07-04-2006

Fox944,

If you are looking for an alternative for the coupe try Redline Safegaurd Systems Bolt-in Roll Bar. It says it's for a 944 but I see no reason why it would not fit in the 968. Has anyone used or had one of these systems installed in a 968?

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - TheMirror - 07-04-2006

Outstanding! I am going to inquire with those folks and I'll post my findings. That would be a great solution for us coupe owners.

Bob:

Anymore news on the roll bars. I have sent you e-mails, but have not had a response.

Thanks,

Jeff

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - flash - 07-14-2006

yeah - after some back and forth, i think we have enough "orders" - just been so busy i haven't had time to get the transaction stuff in place - i should be able to get it wrapped in the next day or three, and get moving

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - 1-tamad - 07-20-2006

Bob,

I, too, am waiting for a response on how to send payment. Please include prices for the bow repair kit, if possible.

Sincerely,

Francis

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - Mark - 07-20-2006

DOH!, I need until next week to see if I have any car money left.

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - flash - 07-20-2006

trying to get the paperwork sorted out now for order taking - filing last stuff tomorrow

there is no kit to date - somebody will have to take a car to him, so he can make the template - he's been doing it one at a time, and never made a template

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - astrojeff - 08-21-2006

Flash:

How are things going on the cab roll bar?

Jeff

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - flash - 08-21-2006

Bob,

It's been over a month, no further word, no contact for a deposit. Is the chassis brace project dead?

ken

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - flash - 10-01-2006

no - right after i got the paperwork all sorted out to handle the transactions, i got sidetracked with an unexpected much larger project - i was going to post tomorrow, but i can let the cat out of the bag now

we just bought a bigger house - finally got my 3 car garage - spent the last 2 weeks doing the deal - move won't happen until november, so i can focus on getting this project in full swing this week

i've already made the arrangements to get going on this post haste, and i will be sending emails tomorrow afternoon with deposit instructions - i want to wrap this up and start shipping around thanksgiving

this will be the last run for probably a year, so get in now if you want one

everybody should send me a fresh email to flash@design1racing.com

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - Clem - 10-03-2006

Quick note on the pics with your belts - they are not looped correctly. You really want to have them start under the bar, then over, so you can loop the belt back through the buckle a 3rd time and over the bar.

CAB CHASSIS BRACE - ROUND 2 - flash - 10-03-2006

lol - they don't make spec anyway - they are only 2" and i only have one of the metal hoops on them right now - i would have to change them to 3" and add another metal hoop

they can still be "double looped" as you say, and i would do that if i were to race this car - i have chosen not to do that at the moment, because i have been yanking that thing in and out a lot over this process - but, i don't see how the starting direction, whether over or under would really make a difference in the end result - the buckle is still in the same place, and the number of loops is the same - the only difference is where the remaining portion of the belt ends up

anyway, i don't plan to compete this car, so it's kind of moot, and will be shortly moving on to a track car - i put these belts in primarily so i felt more locked in - i've had similar ones in my toys for 25 years, and i've just gotten used to the feel - i can't stand the stock gravity belts, and they wouldn't work well with these seats anyway
